Biology, premed at CalPoly

This school is good for eng pgms. How is the premed or Bio program for someone pursuing MD? Compared to top UCs like Cal, UCLA, UCSD? Not in cost of course.

Pre Med is about your grades and MCAT scores far more than the institution. Go where you think you’ll thrive and then kick a**. Good luck.

@sm577501‌, also a note of caution. Don’t make the same mistake many did this year, underestimating the difficulty of admission at Poly. Lots got into UCB and UCLA for engineering, but were rejected at Poly.

Biology is a tough admit and will likely be the same. Poly estimated an admission rate in Biological Science of less than 15%.

If it’s your TOP choice, apply ED.

How about CalPoly Pamona? Do they have better Biology program than SLO?

I wouldn’t say CPP has a better program than SLO but it is a viable option since SLO is so competitive. I am a graduate of CPP (from the dark ages) and I thought their science programs were excellent. You might want to consider San Diego State for Biology (Pre-Med).
