Biology vs. Public Health

Hello,

I'm currently a first year bio-major and I'm want to pursue a career in either pharmacy or a P.A. program.

People are telling me that bio major is not the best pathway for this career (too competitive).

I was thinking if Public Health would be a major for me to consider.

Any opinions?

Stick with Bio… if you do slightly above average, or by chance really above average, you’ll be safe to know that you’re qualified/over qualified. WHY TAKE CHANCES, DAWG? Bio’s not too bad, it’s kinda fun. Plus, you might change your career plan in the future and this won’t jeopardize it.

I was a Public Health major who switched into Bio Sci. If you have any specific questions I would love to help you out. My only advice:

Look at the Upper Division classes you will be taking for both and decide which you would enjoy more. Luckily the first 2 years are pretty much the same so you have time.
For Pharmacy you are probably going to want to stay Bio, and make sure you talk to a counselor there are some extra class you need to take(like 51LC).

if ur pre-pharm, consider looking at chem.

and if you’re scared about competition in the bio program, you’re in for a surprise when it comes to applying to pharm school.

like others have elaborated, if you think bio is too competitive, you’re not cut out for pharm.

there’s no shortcut when you apply to med/dent/pharm school.
