Caveat: I'm a junior in high school and (obviously) have not applied to any schools as of yet..

I'm a pretty competitive math/science student and I'm pretty sure that I want to pursue a degree in medicine.

I know that I could pursue the conventional "pre med track" and fulfill requirements for med school but the BME undergrad program (particularly at Hopkins) seems too good to pass up.

I also want to perform research on gold nano particles and BME seems to cater to that cause pretty well. However, I've heard rumors that BME is arguably the most demanding and difficult undergrad program. This scares me because I feel as if I'll have no social life outside of the lab or classroom as a BME-- I do have other interests! I've also heard that it's very difficult to get a high (>3.5) gpa, and it is imperative for one to have a high gpa if considering med school.

So that being said, any advice or personal anecdotes? Experience or recommendations? Help a brotha' out
