Hey everyone-
I was accepted into Illinois’ bioengineering and the first year engineering program for Purdue, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, planning to be a biomedical engineering major. Cost wise, I got several scholarships from Minnesota making it significantly cheaper than the other three.
I plan on going into medical school after completing my undergraduate studies. With the May 1st deadline coming up soon, I am unable to decide what I should do with my options and would like to hear what any of you would recommend to me.
I don’t know if I should choose based on how well the school and program is known or if the cost benefits are more important. Also, at any of the universities is it possible to get a scholarship sophomore or junior year?
Any suggestions or advice (asap) will be greatly appreciated!! Thank you so much in advance!!!
Very unlikely would you get scholarships your sophomore year.
What are your parents saying about paying the add’l costs?
How much more are the other schools?
Congratulations, they are all good schools. Some thoughts:
Purdue and UIUC have a M/F ratio 57:43. The other two are much closer to 50:50.
Both Purdue and UIUC have among the highest percentages of non-resident alien students in the country. This may or may not appeal to you.
Minnesota has a new med school building, and, being in a Minneapolis/St. Paul, will give you more opportunities for pre-med EC’s than the others. However, you can get into med school from any of them.
UIUC has been approved for a new med school, it but is unclear if it will be funded or how it will impact the existing med school in Champaign.
If having the traditional “college experience” is important, Wisconsin easily wins out.
@mom2collegekids Wisconsin, Purdue, and Illinois are nearly double what I would have to pay for Minnesota including room, board, etc
If anyone has any other input or specific things that I should take into consideration, please please let me know! Thank you!
