how is the biomedical ethics program at rice?

we will soon be having a major called Medical Ethics but right now there are only a few classes. i am not aware of any other program.

i'm pretty sure Rice has one of the best biomed ethics programs in the country.

I don't know... so I'll weigh in too! Dd is taking class in Medical anthropology ? or something like that... and doing an internship over at the hospital. She may end up with two majors, one in anthropology and one sort-of self-designed one, ( Policy Studies of Medical care??? or something like that.) I'm not really sure because she has changed focus several times, but I think that is what she is settling in for. One of the good things about Rice is you can take a while to find a major... :)

Policy studies is not a self-designed major per se.

Students study Public Policy and choose a concentration (a field of application). In this case, your DD is studying PPoMedicalCare

Thanks for the clarification. :) The 2004-2005 bulletin says something about Policy Studies in Healthcare Management, but then again, maybe she's planning to design her own:

Area Majors
Should the traditional departmental majors or programs not meet their exact needs,
students may develop an area major closer to their particular interests and career
goals.

I'll ask her next time we talk. :) I know she is interested in the Medical Ethics area, so maybe she'll switch to that once the major is developed. (I'm only funding 4 years of undergrad education, though!)
