Birnkrandt questions...!!!!

Even though we toured the dorm, now that it’s time to pack…YIKES.

so here goes with questions for those who have lived in Birnkrandt…

how much room under the beds? do we bring our own bed raisers if we want them higher, or do Birnkrandt beds have adjustable legs? how high do they get?

desk drawers - is at least one of them set up for hanging files?

shelves - the layout scheme in the brochure shows shelves all along under the window, but I remember a fridge/microwave being there too. is it in front of those shelves?

windows - curtains? provided or can we do something more fun?

walls - can we nail in items (like shelves, hooks, etc…) or do we have restrictions to “tape only” for posters & the like?

anybody know the size of storage crates that would fit under beds AND in the closets? is there an upper shelf in the closet?

mirror? provided? or can we hang one? or do people put them over the back of the door?

how about towel racks?

THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS

I lived in North last year, but I've been in Birnkrant quite a few times and it's pretty similar, so I'll answer at least some of your questions.

No need to bring your own bed risers. The beds have notches in the frame so you can adjust the height and loft it. At the highest, the top of the mattress is a bit higher than the top of the desk.

The bottom drawer of the desk is tall enough for files, but I'm not sure if the file hooks will fit over the edge of the drawer

can't answer this one unfortunately

There are blinds on the windows already (the ones with all those plastic slats). I suppose if it doesn't damage the walls or pose a fire hazard, it's possible to hang curtains or something

You're not supposed to put any nails or pins in the walls. They give you a nice big bulletin board, as well as some helpful poster putty.

You can actually fit a mid-size dresser under the bed if you loft it to it's highest height, so storage crates will fit easily. If the closets are like New/North's, yes, there is an upper shelf.

There's a mirror above your dresser, and your roommate will have a mirror too. It's not a full-length mirror, so if you want one, again, if it doesn't damage the walls, i suppose it's possible.

There is a towel rack, but it's location may vary (New/North's was bolted to the side of the dresser)

Anybody know what's on the back of the door?

Anyone else have input on that shelf/fridge area under the window?

thx!

PS does fridge have a freezer for ice, etc?

the back of the door usually has the typical safety/fire info sticker, as well the a peephole.

The microfridge unit consists of a fridge which actually gets really really cold, a separate freezer for ice and frozen goods, and a microwave on top of it.
