I am looking for ideas for making a Birnkrant double room, which I assume is like most other dorm doubles, most usable, especially for storage. Any idea for using all that space under the beds? Does anyone have the dimensions handy.

It seem lightweight dressers from places like Target could work, though they are usually pretty shallow. It seems unfortunate to waste all the space behind them.

Has anyone found any under bed dressers or other clothes storage ideas that worked well? If so, do you recall the brand or where you bought it? Any other ideas for making these rooms most user friendly?

I'd prefer to pick up what I might need now and bring it if possible.

Thanks for your input!

If you loft your bed at the highest spot, you can fit your three drawer dresser (that comes in the room) under your bed— this clears up some space by the closet. You can also fit several Target three drawer lightweight style dresser (D had 3 of these). The bed is deep enough to put two rows if you wanted to and put stuff you don’t use all the time in the back. Get the ones with removable wheels so it is easy to move them around from back to front. There is also room above the closet to store some stuff in boxes and/or baskets. If you put all the long clothes in one side of the closet then you can also get a shoe organizer for the other side-- or put you dirty clothes hamper there (that’s what D did).

Thanks! Are the beds adjustable (you note lofting at the highest spot)?

Yeah, there are 3 (maybe 4?) levels, you can pull the frame apart and raise or lower it.

The dimensions are that of a twin XL bed, so 39"x80".

The beds are adjustable-ish. They are difficult to adjust without help, but if you flag down one of the helpers on move-in day, they’ll be able to find someone with the right equipment to loft the bed, which can be low, middle, or high. High puts it a few inches above the dresser that comes with the room.

I also found these helpful: [VESSLA Storage crate with casters - blue - IKEA](<a href=“VESSLA Storage crate with casters, blue, 15 ¼x15 ¼" - IKEA”>VESSLA Storage crate with casters, blue, 15 ¼x15 ¼" - IKEA) They’re $6, plus a $2 lid, and I put four of them (two stacks of two) underneath the bed (lofted to high). They’re 15x15x11, don’t know if the 11 is the height including or without castors. I use mine for bedding, towels, cleaning stuff, etc.

I also got a 2x2 Expedit ($40, [EXPEDIT Shelving unit - white - IKEA](<a href=“Products - IKEA”>Furniture - Shop Furniture Online & In-store Near You - IKEA)), which isn’t practical for everyone, but I liked it. It doesn’t have a huge footprint, but I thought it was great for my TV, cooking stuff (I brought my own cheap plates and cups, it’s worth it not to have to steal from the dining hall), and books I didn’t have room for on my bookshelf. My roommate also had some space in it, cause I put it on her side of the room (due to the layout of our room in Parkside). It assembles and disassembles pretty easily too, which is nice. Before you buy it, though, make sure you have somewhere to put it in your room, which will have a different layout from mine in Parkside A&H.

Hey, thanks. Good ideas!

what my roommates and I did in birnkrant was we moved the 3-drawer dresser into the closet to get more floor space… but we were in a triple where the closets didn’t have doors

The container store sells a hanging rod that doubles as a second level you can hang clothing. It came in VERY handy. I also bought adhesive hooks (get a big pack) We bought the rolling storage for under the bed at The Container Store 3 fit under the bed. If you cant find a person to help you bring a hammer to raise the bed. It gets stuck. If you get the closet without the doors you will be lucky. The bottom of the closet is yucky.Bring a square of carpet or contact paper…Maybe thats a girly thing ? It makes it prettier!
