Birthday at UD - Need suggestions, Please

It is our daughters 18th birthday this Sunday. I was thinking about ordering cupcakes from the cupcake place on main street (even though she wont eat any of them) but when I spoke to them they said that someone has to be at the dorm to receive them. D has a tournament on campus this weekend and won't be around the dorms too much. Even if they deliver them early and D is there, she is in Russell, there is no AC and I am afraid they will melt (or just be inedible) by the time she gets back to the dorm. I was hoping that anyone might have suggestions of what I could do for her Birthday. Balloons? Help! please.

yoUDeegram!!!

I don’t have any suggestions but…Happy Birthday to your D

I ordered a cookie cake for my son last year through the dining services. I don’t have the link, but I’m sure you can call them. It needed to be picked up at the Perkins Center though, so I cntacted his roomate to do that for me so it could be a surprise. it worked out well. The UD-gram looks like a good idea too. The cookie cake was only about $15.00 though, instead of $60.00.

let us know what you do! I have same issue in November. I love those cupcakes, but if she won’t eat them, don’t do it. They are very fragile also, piled high with icing.

I will definitely let you know. I just found out that D’s best friend is planning something for her. Thank goodness for thoughtful friends… It has been an adjustment for her, like most, and I didn’t want her to be sad on her 18th birthday. I am going to call her friend later, and if this friend’s parents are on CC, let me just say you’ve raised a thoughtful wonderful girl! I will keep you posted, Pumpkin. Thanks all for your excellent suggestions.

Just resurrecting this thread because my son has a birthday coming up in a few weeks. I called dining services. They sell a giant cookie (either chocolate chip or peanut butter) with a message written on it for all of $11.75. They will send a card to the student (or a friend if you want to make it a surprise) thru the mail (so they need to be reminded to check their mail). The card tells them that bakery services has something for them to pick up at bakery services in Perkins. The cookie should be ordered at least 2 days in advance. It can only be picked up on weekdays.

I think my son would never forgive me if I did one of those yoUDee Grams mentioned above, but I think he would enjoy the cookie.

Interesting… my son would probably like this as well. I missed it this year as his birthday was in March. If anyone does this, please post a photo.

My D is going to turn 18 within the first few weeks she is at UD in the fall. I love that UDgram - although she will probably be mortified! Saving the URL as a favorite… it’s definitely a consideration!

I wish I could get Youdee to do a road trip to NYC for my D’s birthday in May!

On a side note, is there any truth to the rumor that there’s a Dunkin Donuts at UD? We didn’t get to tour Perkins very well after the t-shirt drama in the bookstore.

Yes, there’s a Dunkin Donuts in Perkins!

We got DD YoUDee grams for her 18th and 21st birthdays. I’d post pictures if I could, she might have been a bit embarrassed initially but she loved it! The first time we had it done at breakfast in the dining hall and the second during a team practice.

Yes, there is DD in Perkins. My son has been having breakfast there most mornings. Egg & Cheese on croissant or bagel and coffee/hot chocolate combo. It’s relatively cheap and lets him save his meals for dinner and some lunches (and brunch, of course).

My son picked up his cookie cake today. He sent me a cell photo. if anyone wants to see it, I just uploaded it to the University of Delaware Parents/Priceline Fans page on facebook. They decorated it, and printed a message (although the space was limited so they couldn’t do the entire message I requested).

I asked how it tastes and he said “good”.
