Im currently a student at Miami University (OH) and am looking to transfer. I am from NY and want to gt back towards a city. Anyway my question is when it comes time to get an MBA and go to biz school how much weight does the undergrad program carry. I know Miami has a good undergrad program but $34,000 a year plus grad school is really going to be a lot to pay back evern with the help im getting from my parents. I guess im really wondering whats most important to those schools and how they view smaller private schools. Im considering Seton Hall in NJ and am having a hard time coming up with others. Im considering BC but its the same thing as Miami with price adding on to grad school. Anything will help if you make it through my long drawn out nonsense

Most of the best business schools don't like to accept anyone right out of undergrad - they want you to be working first. The weight of the undergrad program is fading fast (though the weight of being able to pay the bill, and the jobs opened by having been recruited out of undergrad, has not.)

You're from NYC - why not Baruch? They place more graduates in business placements in New York than any other undergrad in the country. And you could save some bigtime money...for grad school, or for your first business.

Any one know of schools in the Boston area?

thanks by the way

Well, there's Bentley and Babson, but look at it this way. It's gonna cost you $34k at any of these schools; Baruch is going to cost you $4k. So you'll save $60k over two years. You will get an immediately third-year job placement in NYC, with more choices than students at most other schools dream about, and at a higher rate of pay, and entree into the New York business world.

So all those other schools are indeed wonderful, but are they $60k more wonderful?

seton hall...south orange...no.

go to baruch

Why do you say no to Seton Hall?

The area around Seton Hall kinda sucks

Seton Hall and its area kinda sucks. If you want Catholic for NYC recruitment, go to Fordham.

What about RIT or Xavier University for biz?

Just look at a list of the undergrad schools of students at any top 10 MBA program and it's very simple, the higher the school is ranked the better.

What about NOrthwestern , DePaul or Loyola in Chicago?

I looked into Loyola. Whats DePaul like?

I think Babson is your best bet.

I don't think Xavier has a very good business program. Cinti is a nice city though (but X is not in a very attractive section).

I dont know Babson is pretty pricey.

How about UMass? Are you only looking at Private schools? You aren't going to save much money going to most other private schools (at least ones that are as good as Miami). You might want to check out University of Maryland too.

Any private school will be expensive. My advice is to stay at Miami or go to a place like Babson. There's really no good inexpensive state school in a city.

not cheap. Just rather not have it cost 34,000. around 20,000 is fine.

Although it is not in a city, SUNY at Binghamton is well regarded in NY, has a good business program and sends a lot of kids to excellent graduate schools. It wont cost you that much and should open the door to a good job out of college. My daughter's friend who is a student at Binghamton recently told me that she thought the business program there was one of the strongest departments. I dont know the details of their business program but it might be worth considering.
