Black Admit Weekend

“i might b going. n here we go again with the racial remarks. if the thread does not pertain to u. y the hell do u even care about commenting?”

Because the title of the weekend – “Black by Popular Demand” – is just so hilarious, and because such efforts aimed at racially segregating universities deserve to be ridiculed.

there’s a pilipino admit day as well

How about an Economically Disadvantaged Lesbian Disabled Melanesian Admit Day, too?

It does not matter if it is ridiculous. The point is that many universities host multicultural programs to welcome underrepresented groups. Whether or not any of us agrees with these programs is besides the point. In regards to your “racially segregating universities deserve to be ridiculed” comment, this was not intended nor stated in the information I received about the weekend. In fact, these programs are designed to diversify campuses and encourage these underrepresented groups of admits to attend their schools. For the record, this discussion was made for African American Admits, so if it pertained to you, then make a comment. Otherwise, leave your ignorant remarks elsewhere.

Admits: The organizers will be contacting us to confirm transportation details this weekend!

the point of this thread was not to ridicule the name, i just wanted to see who else on here was going. I was the only black student at my school to get accepted to UCLA (and the only one that applied) and I wanted to know if other people were going that is all. I know they probably could of picked a better name, the purpose of the weekend is really nice that they are doing. I do not see nothing wrong with that and plus the Latinos and the Filipinos have something similar to it to. And do not blame it on UCLA, because Berkeley invited to their black admit weekend too, it’s the same week, and USC invited me to their black and Latino dinner and breakfast. The schools just want to welcome as many underrepresented minorities as they can.

How about an Asian admit day? A white admit day? Let’s see, we could have “Amazin’ Asians Admit Day” and for whites we could have “Wonderful Whites Admit Day.” I would find those just as ridiculous.

they won’t have an asian or white admit day because the majority of the people at the school are asian or white

Irrelevant. These programs lead to a Balkanization of college campuses.

babygurl: ahem

[Southeast Asian Admit Weekend at UCLA](http://www.seaadmitatucla.com)

your an ignorant idiot. These schools are not aiming at segregating students, they are using this as an opportunity to add diversity to there schools. Plain and simple black students will not go to a school that has less than 5% of there race. I have many white, asian, latino, middle-eastern friends, but I also find i essential that I have black friends, because there are certain things that you can only relate to other blacks, and if you find that hard to believe, then you are living in your demented, distorted view of life. When I saw this invitation, I didn’t see it as an opportunity to only be with blacks, I saw it as a opportunity to meet more blacks in a community that has less than 5% of them. I saw it as an opportunity to see other african americans that were able to be accepted into one of the best public colleges in america. If you haven’t noticed, in ever high school most of the african americans are the underachievers. Plain and simple, thats the truth. So its good to see other african americans accepted, and to feel more comfortable going into a school knowing that it wont be strictly one race, and that it will be diverse enough for you to take in culture and become more open minded. Please dont come on a board to bash, theres no point in it. I just felt very distressed by your posts, and if you really are a “dad,” get off a college board, and get a life.

Binta92: Someone with some sense, thank you…

“I just felt very distressed by your posts …”

My posts caused you “distress?” I can only imagine the stress you will feel in your classes at UCLA

" … if you really are a “dad,” get off a college board, and get a life."

Yes, I am a dad.
No, I will not “get off of a college board.”
I have a very rich life, thank you very much.

"Someone with some sense, thank you… "

SusieH: Does this mean that I lack sense merely because I disagree with you?

Christ some of you guys are *ing ■■■■■■■■. Some random student group is having a special get-together for incoming freshmen so they can get them to join their organization. It isn’t like this thing is being run by UCLA or anything, its a god damn third party. Get the * over yourselves. The fact of the matter is that there aren’t that many African American students here, so hell yes they’re going to try to organize them and fast and spread the word about their organization.

If any other of the student organizations on campus cared about unity and sticking together like this one, they’d have a special admit day too to show them their organization and try to recruit them.

So just shut the **** up and let them have their weekend.

@SusieH. and Babygurl14
Welcome to UCLA and congrats on getting in. Enjoy the weekend to check out the campus and meet some new friends and best of luck to you guys in fall :).

Simple answer: There is no “White Admit Day” because UCLA doesn’t need to draw more white students in. Without a “White Admit Day,” UCLA will draw in a good majority of white students. westerndad, all this is is a recruitment tool - I don’t quite understand why you are offended.

It isn’t a matter of drawing white students in because they only notify the black students who are actually admitted to come. It is just a recruitment event for their club/organization.

Offended by Black by Popular Demand? Not at all. I am amused. I find it hilarious.

Nor am I offended by some of the sentiments expressed by various posters on this thread. Let’s see, there were references to:

“ignorant remarks”

“ignorant idiot”

“get a life”

“****ing ■■■■■■■■”

“Get the **** over yourselves”

and of course, there was the classic, if a bit uncreative, “shut the **** up”

While I was not in the least offended by these remarks, I do find them telling.

By the way, aberdeen15, I never asked for a White Admit Day, either. In fact, I find that idea just as hilarious, though Mount Holyoke College apparently has one. That deserves some ridicule, as well, which I expressed on a different thread.

True. Insults are a common response to unwelcome ■■■■■■■■, no matter how politely the ■■■■■ tries to present themselves.

Insults are a common response to those with whom one disagrees.

BESIDES THAT.
does anyone know how when to expect a call from transportation? I got a somewhat confirmation call like a week ago, and the weekend is approaching, and I like to know what my plans will be ahead of time, so theres no confusion later on. So does anyone know what I’m suppose to do? Just wait, till a plane ticket is mailed? A call perhaps?
