Am I the only one who thought this movie sucked? It was kind of one of those movies that people go to because they want to feel artsy and intelligent but still go to a mainstream movie. I liked the camera work and the last twenty minutes were pretty good but it couldn't save the movie

I did not think it was super arsty, and I do not think anyone really does. It was a drama/thriller, a good one, with good acting and a neat story. The artsiest bit was probably about how Natalie “felt it” at the end, all that Bohemian dying-for-art thing.

The plot was terribly obvious. And the “horror” scenes weren’t in the slightest bit creepy. There were probably some good things, but I can’t recall.

Well, I thought the parts where it seemed like the mother was going to kill Natalie/Natalie was going to kill her were scary.

The story was slow, which was the one thing I disliked.

However, Natalie Portman gave a great performance. She showed a side to her that was really gripping.

Though, I thought that the story was going to be about sexual abuse throughout most of the movie. The mother/daughter relationship was a really creepy aspec.

The movie was beautifully done, with the art direction/sound editing making a big difference.

The trope of the overbearing ballerina mother was nicely integrated into the story, and her later scenes are genuinely creepy.

The horror/OCD/nervous breakdown stuff could have been done better, but it was solid for a film that did not pretend to be scarier than it was.

Overall, it was a film where the plot could have been slightly stronger, but the amazing visual/aural effects combined with strong performances really carried the movie.

I wish more people heard some Tchaikovsky before they went on and on about the originality of the music. I appreciate that Mansell knew how to clip and in some parts exaggerate, but really what he did was not original, it was rehashed Tchaikovsky, and I don’t think he deserves 90% of the credit he’s getting.

It’s just that whenever I’m in a conversation about that movie, SOMEONE brings up how original Mansell is and it makes me want to wring necks.

^lol ikr?

I didn’t think anyone would say anything about the soundtrack since it was basically just from the ballet. ****es me off.

Definitely one of my favorite movies of all time.

I went in having no idea what the movie was even about; the shock factor really added to the film haha.

It kind of annoyed me that by the end you still barely know anything about Portman’s character and know absolutely nothing about any of the other characters. I mean there’s a way that they could have me it work but that didn’t happen in this movie. I couldn’t connect with anyone in the movie and by the end I really didn’t care if she became the black swan or not.
