Blair Academy?

Hi I was looking at Blair Academy as an option for high school. I'm currently at an all girls boarding school for dance and riding but I don't know if I like it too much. I want to focus a lot on taking around 10 APs for high school, and I want to continue dance and riding and also violin and piano if possible. Do they offer riding and dance at Blair? If so, how are the programs?

Also, how are the dorms? And how much homework do you normally have per night?

Thank you!

Blair is a great school offering a warm community and challenging academics. I know you can study violin and piano, but I don’t know about riding. They have horse farms in the surrounding area, but no stable on campus. They have dance, but you should ask Admissions to find out more. I heard they were changing the dance program for this year.

Like most boarding schools, the dorms vary. The freshman girls’ dorm rooms are on the small side, but very conveniently located. From 10th grade up, you may go to Annie’s Hall which is beautiful, new and air conditioned. I hear the dorms are nice, but I’ve never been to one. The lounge is magnificent. There is another smaller girls dorm that I heard many want because the dorm rooms are exceptionally large. There is at least one other girls dorm that I don’t know anything about. In general, dorms at boarding schools vary because they were built at different points in time.

I should warn you that it is hard to take 5 APs a year when you attend a boarding school. This is because you have afternoon athletics/arts etc. that are time consuming. Then you might participate in some activities on top of that. If you play competitive sports, you will miss some class to travel to games.

The amount of homework you get varies. My son went there for 4 years, and the level of homework was manageable for him.

If dance and riding are your top priorities, then Blair is probably not be the right choice for you. If your priorities are changing, and you want to focus more on academics and music in a fun and close coed community, then I think it would be a great choice.
