Block people on AIM?

Ok, so if I block someone on AIM, will they know that they've been blocked? What exactly happens from their point of view? Do they see a big "BLOCKED" sign or something? Because that'd be awkward. Also, can a blocked person see when I'm online and just can't IM me, or will I always appear offline to them and they'd never actually know I was online?

There's just someone I know who's a nice person, but likes to chat on aim WAY too much and instead of telling them off I figured I'd just nonchalantly block them (only if there's really no way for them to tell that they've been blocked).

Thanks.

I thought this said "black people on AIM"

Anyway, I believe (I may be mistaken, I haven't used AIM in awhile) that if you block someone and they have you on their buddylist, you just appear offline all of the time - unless they try to IM you, then they receive a message that you've blocked them.

If you're having a problem with someone but don't want to upset them just set your status to hidden (you'll appear offline even if you're online, then just IM people you want to talk to.)

You appear offline to them. If they try to IM you when you're offline, it still says you're offline (and you don't get the message).

I've been in the same situation so I would know.

if they have any brains they'll just ask a mutual friend to scope out your status

then, my friend, it gets awkward
