Block vs. Normal

Which schedule is better, a block or normal one?

bump................

i really enjoy block scheduling, it helps a lot when you're taking college courses.

except ap classes :</p>

luckily at my school we take most of our college classes through the university of wisconsin system

we're changing to block next year...interested to see how it goes

we have block... sort of... we have rotating blocks. we have 8 total classes, and on any given day we'll have 6 of them and we'll drop 2, and the the 2 that we drop rotate. i like the schedule a lot because you never have to do 8 classes worth of homework in a night, and you don't have to see a teacher/be in a class that you don't like EVERY day. every 4 days you get a break from it.

We have a 7-hour day, and I like it. I've never had block scheduling, but I don't know if I'd have the attention span to spend more than an hour in a class. While this may not be necessarily true, but I'd assume that even though you get the same class time, the classes would be more like cramming. 2 hours of class and 2 days of class are different.

Again, I've never had block scheduling, so I might be completely wrong.

I like block scheduling because you can actually get stuff done. We have a total of 8 periods, and we have even days and odd days, where on even days our schedule is 2,4,5(lunch),6 and on odd days it is 1,3,5,7. Every period is 90 min. except for 5 which is 45 min. During pd 5, we lose so much time starting class and winding down that we usually fall behind the other periods. Also, you know that the homework you get that day won't be due for two days, which relieves alot of stress. Also, it makes school more interesting, because you frequently hear people saying, "ug, today's an odd day. i hate odd days" or "yay, today's an even day- all my easy classes are on even days". Each day you see different people because you have diffferent classes, which breaks the monotony. The bad thing about block scheduling is when you have a boring/bad class, and you have to sit through it for 90 min. instead of 45 min. Classes that would be ok on a normal schedule can be horrible on a block schedule. Also, many people may like the fact that they don't get anything done during their 45 min. classes. I know on half days or 2 hr. delays when we revert to 45 min. classes everyone is astonished with how quickly class ends. I went to a middle school that had regular scheduling, so I know what I'm talking about.

block is good cause i can still take the max number of classes I want, and still be able to take a lunch (since its kinda mandatory now). Fresh->Junior year I always took 8 classes and had to eat lunch during an elective

I had block in middle school.

Pros:
-day seems to go faster
-usually less homework
-more time to get help if you don't understand something

Cons:
-some teachers still covered the same material in 90min as they would in 45, so we only got halfway through the curriculum
- SUPER HUGE TESTS (200+ MC)
-way more projects

I really prefer 8 45 min classes every day.

Lunch is mandatory at my school, all 28 min of it.

What's good about block scheduling is that you can take the math class (or language, science, etc.) that requires a certain pre-requisite class, and the pre-requisite class all in the same year unlike regular scheduling. For example, the first semester you could finish algebra 2, and the next you could finish trigonometry, so in your junior year (or whatever year you're in) you will have completed two math courses in just that year. Whereas with a regular schedule, you would only be able to complete algebra 2.
