Blue and Gold package and Verification questions!

I signed my SIR today and found out that the financial aid deadline is also May 1st... This is terrible since I did not know and it needs to be by mail. Does anyone have an estimate how long it will take to deliver from San Bernardino/LA to La Jolla? Also, how long does it take to sign up for DirectDeposit? (to process my verification and to sign up DD)

Also it says I'm eligible for the Blue and Gold package - can you only apply after you enroll? What are the chances of getting this?

I'm pretty stressed out right now, which is mainly my own fault but still..

Er, Did you do your FAFSA by March 1st or whatever date in March it was due? If you did, you should be fine. Mail from LA to La Jolla usually takes 1 business day. Direct deposit verifies within a day or a few hours.

You apply for the blue and gold package by turning in your FAFSA by March 1st or whatever the date was. The chances are 100% if you qualify.

Thanks for the response! Yes I did submit my FAFSA. Hopefully we get our hands on a copy of the tax form by Monday, so I can apply for DirectDeposit before the deadline.

Also, is it really 100%? Thats crazy! If I’m not mistaken it basically pays your four years at a UC or am I terribly wrong? So far we have a total of around $8000 a year for UCSD after $20000 in grants. Our family earns less than $25k a year.

EDIT: I found out it was only for “system wide” fees. Can anyone elaborate?

I’m slightly confused. Direct deposit doesn’t have a deadline. In fact, direct deposit isn’t even financial aid. It’s basically linking your bank account to your triton account so that if there is extra money leftover from your financial aid, they will deposit it into your bank. Are you perhaps referring to something else?

It’s guaranteed if your EFC is low enough. The blue and gold package basically pays for tuition as well as offering other forms of financial aid that are not necessary grants.

So on my financial aid, it shows that I have about ~8,000 or so left to pay (the other is paid by in grants). But it doesn’t include the Blue&Gold then? Because near the bottom of the page, there’s a box that says I’m eligible (the amount was about 10,000) for the Blue and Gold thing. Does that mean I won’t have to pay anything?

@xpenguin

Oh, theres no deadline for DD? I coulda sworn I saw that its deadline was May 1st because I tried to sign up for it, but I needed to get my verification in first. Perhaps thats what its referring too.

And I’m wondering the same thing that tealeaf2 asked, because I got a huge “UCSD Grant” out of nowhere but I’m not sure if that is the B&G in effect.

@tealeaf2 Unless you have outside scholarships or a Jacobs scholarship or something that promises you a full ride, normal financial aid will not cover you completely. My EFC is 0 and I still have to get loans in order to pay for my schooling. The Blue&Gold package is probably listed in your financial aid under the name of “UCSD grant” or something like that.

@op9no2
The deadline for normal financial aid is May 1st. I believe this is just for continuing students but don’t quote me on that. If anything you should go to tritonlink –> Financial aid –> 2010-2011 and see if there is anything in your financial aid checklist that is incomplete and needs to be completed. Direct deposit is optional anyways. Yes, the UCSD grant is the B&G in effect.

wait… the only thing that is due is the verification ws and copy of ur tax return…
i didn’t notice anything due other than those two things…

Every person has different worksheets or forms to fill out/send in. Even if your EFCs are the same, they have a lottery that dictates whether they request additional forms from each person or not. So just make sure you fill out all the checkboxes in your financial aid checklist by their due dates and you’ll be fine ^^.

Ohhh, so the UCSD Grant IS the Blue & Gold? Okay, that makes a lot more sense now haha. Thanks!

Can you fax the forms for financial aid or do they have to be mailed in?

You can fax them, just make sure your name and PID number is on each sheet of paper you fax over. UCSD Financial Aid Fax Number: (858) 534-5459

Actually, you don’t have to write your name and PID now. UCSD added barcodes this year :O! But I’d make sure that you send them in and check if they received them by checking your checklist a few days later.
