important question about financial aid or blue and gold(UCSD)

I will be attending UCSD this fall and I got my official awards out about a month ago..

I got about $8500 from UCSD and work study amount of $1900.

I thought that was all I can get at first, but I heard blue and gold plan covers full tuition.
(and yes, I'm eligible. It said on estimated amounts that I can receive about $11,000)

I filed fafsa with income of about $72,000 (for some reason pell grant was declined).

I'm worried right now cause does this mean I can't get full tuition covered?

or is $8500 is the amount I get after blue and gold covers my tuition? does anybody know?

I'm really concerned right now..

Your EFC was most likely too high for the Pell Grant, but the UC should take care of it. I had a similar question awhile back. I wrote to the FA office and the following is a part of what they wrote back:

" Blue & Gold is not included in student’s award packages until September/October. This is due incoming scholarships and other aid that will be applied before the Blue & Gold. So even while you’ll get your official award notice in June, you may not see your Blue & Gold eligibility until fall quarter this means your awards will be revised again.

Straight from the horse’s mouth. Wait it out. Hope that helps!

Thank you so much for your post zamboni.

So to make sure again, I will be getting blue and gold(about $11,000) + UCSD Grant (about $8,500) by fall quarter? if that happens my parents will be so happy lol

No, you can’t get both. If your grants are lower than tuition then your grant will be revised to fulfill the Blue & Gold promise. When they revise, your grants will probably add up to equal the amount of the new tuition fees.

Thank you SMCguy.

I guess I have wait till september/october to get my Blue&Gold grant. it comes into my direct deposit account, correct?

■■■■■. pal that money goes straight to UCSD.

confusing, you’re going to UCSD and you don’t know this stuff? no wonder they raised the GPA this year.

^mr smart up in here. keep the crap to yourself if you can’t contribute.

wait so ucsd ALSO gives out grants??? as much as 8500? I currently receive pell grant of around 5000 a year while attending a CC…so will I also get 5000 when attending a UC? How do you get money from UCs then? thanks a lot

wow UCkittychen you cockyass you are smart enough to know every single details of school system huh? Now let me see where you transferring to huh? if I see you asking a question in this forum you know what’s gonna happen right?lol just like worrymuch said if you won’t contribute, get your cockyass outta here lol

[University of California - Blue + Gold Opportunity Plan](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/paying-for-uc/financial-aid/grants/blue-gold/index.html)

you’re transferring to UCSD. University of California, San Diego. That is a STEP UP in life. a MAJOR step up. you’re going OFF to college. do you live near San Diego? Anyways, my point is, if you’re going off to college, I’m sure you would like the most financial aid you can get, wouldn’t your counselor, admissions officer, financial aid department inform you if you even qualify for this and how it works?

if it covers tuition and fees, do you really think they would give you a check for 12,000-15000?

think about it from a general point of view. a 18 year old kid who is eligible to receive this might start spending the money and then not paying to to the UC for the fees and tuition. Blue and Gold is a scholarship that covers the costs, directly to the school.

those are simple, critical thinking methods you should have acquired from CC.
