Blue Book Practice SAT #1

Aite, so I just finished taking the Blue Book's SAT # 1 and it gives me these ranges:

CR: 700-800
M: 700-780
W: 730-800
So that's like a total of 2100-2380. BUT, I find that to be an ENORMOUS and vague range so I was wondering if anyone knew how to narrow down that range in a realistic way.

If there is such a way, how do I narrow it down?
And is that a good range for a rising sophomore?

no, that is an AWFUL range for a sophomore.. or anyone for that matter. 2380? be serious.. you still need 20 points to get a good score.

please. be realistic. you know its a good range... dont make us toot your horn, so to speak.

on that note, there are alot of threads on this. its something like take the middle range of math, lower end of verbal, and lower-middle for writing. writing is hard to score on practice tests because its difficult to know what you would receive on your essay.

Yeah, I just took the first BB test, too. Those huge ranges really annoy me. It said I got 660-760 on CR. If I actually got 660, I might cry XD, but if I got 760, that would be PHENOMENAL for me. So that basically tells me nothing.

It also bugged me how I only missed ONE math problem on the entire test, and that brought it down to 750-800. Argh.

We used the blue book in the class I took and they pretty much just graded it based on the average of the two numbers it gave in the range, which was pretty consistant with what I got on the psats and sats.

That's the only thing I really don't like about the book, I wish they'd tell you it's basically a range, but, this is probably what you'd get.

Great score, though.

"That's the only thing I really don't like about the book, I wish they'd tell you it's basically a range, but, this is probably what you'd get."

Yeah! That would be much better. I'd much rather have it say "You got ____", instead of, "You got something between 1200 and 2300!"

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm bugged about, thecomisar. There is a HUGE difference between 2100 and 2380, and something like 700-800 is much too broad of a range. It doesn't really soothe my worries for that matter. So I guess the only time that range thing would be accurate would be if you got everything right, hence a 2400.

Thanks for the information though, guys. I guess I'll just average it.

Just wondering, how did you determine your essay score?

I just put a 5 because that's what I estimate my score to be. The estimate was based on what my friends who actually took the SATs got and I compared my writing abilities to theirs. I also somewhat based it on my Spring/Fall Write scores, even though I know the SAT essay is written differently. So yeah, it was somewhat of an estimate since I'm too darn lazy to actually write an essay when I can spend my time reviewing the multiple choice questions.

EDIT: I mean 5/6, aka 10/12.

Ohh, so you didn't actually write one?

I should start BB test #2, but I'm too lazy to write non-stop for 25 minutes :p

Yeah, it gets redundant. BTW this may sound weird but I totally "worship" the BB. I sleep with it under my pillow. :) I named it too--"Good Faithful".

Oh, and I was going to say that the range of 2100-2380 to me is as ridiculous as giving someone a projected range of an A-F. Well, maybe more like A-C. But yeah, it's annoying.

"I totally "worship" the BB. I sleep with it under my pillow."

LMAO

I wanna name the BB Good Faithful :)

Here's my best estimate of your actual scores:

CR: 700
Math: 740
Writing: 740

Total: 2180

This is an excellent score for a rising sophomore. With some work over the next two years, you can most likely pull this up to close to a 2400. :)

Lol I really don't care if it's extremely eccentric of me to do so, as long as I feel that I can develop a "mutual bond" with the fat book. Yes, I'm that desperate to do well on the SATs...
College is something I regard highly--it means to me my self-worth and everything I am as a person. Perfectionism sucks for this aspect. I feel that if I cannot prove to myself my worth, I don't deserve to exist. In other words, I will feel subhuman and worthless.

My worthless heart goes out to you, Magnificent SATs. I beg to be blessed with your munificent and grand aura! worships, bows

Ermmm yeah... psychotic. :)

haha, you're so funny. You sound eerily like myself, though  XD

Right now I'm in a good mood though, because I just got 24/24 on a CR section out of the blue book. The first time I've EVER gotten perfect on anything related to CR :D :p

Good job! The feeling of completeness and accuracy is really wonderful. :)

Haha, it's pretty cool that we're alike then. Coincidentally, we both reside in CA! I'm about 45 min away from San Jose.

Awesome! I'm surprised that you don't actually go to my school... I think there are a ton of members on here who do :D

Whoops, wrong account. I'm thecomisar's alternate personality ;)
