For those who have taken the real SAT and the tests in the College Board Blue Book, how have your real scores been compared to the ranges they give in the book. My daughter seemed to score better on the PSAT than the mid-range of her scores in the blue book. Do you think you can expect to score towards the high end of the ranges?

Nope. The Mid-ranges are as accurate as hell. With a certain raw score you could probably expect the Median of the range to be YOUR score.

The practice tests I took for October ranged from 2050-2100. On the real thing, I got 2120.

I'm taking it my second and last time in January (I'm a senior :(), and I just took another practice test: 2100.

I'm just trying to improve my horrendous CR score while keeping the other two above 700.

How horrendous could your CR score be and still let you get 2100?

Very horrendous (610). Yes, it's embarassing and has to improve this Saturday -- I'm aiming for a 660. I'd be pretty satisfied this time with a 740M 660CR 700W, as highest composite scores are taken, and for me, those math and writing scores are decent enough.

I think my main problem with CR is my lack of concentration. When I'm reading these boring passages, I cannot seem to concentrate. I start to think about the upcoming writing section, the possible math questions I might've gotten incorrect previously, how my essay was written, etc. Thus...I do poorly? I need to get focused this Saturday, especially for these damn reading passages.

YAY!
I took a practice test and scored 670V 730M 700W (from median from blue book). If I use the grading scale for October's SAT however, I get 680 720 670. Say I get this on the actual exam...would colleges still see my old 720 over the new 670 on Writing?

October: 610 790 720
January: 680 720 670 (just possibly)
Highest: 680 790 720 (2190)?

I should still send the (potential) January scores in...right?

My CR score is just stuck around the 660-690 area. Any advice to get this above 750+? Most of my mistakes are just careless mistakes where i fail to understand the main point of a particular section of the passage in the first read.

Also, if you choose to have your scores cancelled, will colleges still see that you've attempted the test and will they see your scores on that test? I'm asking because there have been practice tests in the past where I just bomb the CR section because of the passages, and in case that happens on Saturday, I want to know whether its possible to cancel. So, it's almost like treating the real test as a mock test: If I feel good about the real thing, then I send it in.. if I felt i bombed it, then I cancel. Is this possible?

To eddieee: Most colleges will take your Highest combination of scores, So even if you get less in writing don't worry.

To Physics08: If you cancel scores nobody will be able to view your scores(probably not even you). You can cancel the test if you dont feel good about it. About help in CR...you can definitely get 750+ in CR, just remember one thing : for any answer choice to be correct it MUST be clearly(or not so clearly) present in the passage.... using this you can eliminate most of the answer choices in the "main point type questions".

Best of Luck to both of you.
