I know that there are a couple of threads about this already but i wanted to get more input about the accuracy of blue book practice tests. I have taken 7 CB tests along with a couple PR tests and score consistently between the score range of 1950-2020.
How did your actual score compare with your practice tests? Do you think I can pull off a 2100 on the actual SAT because I tend to make a lot of dumb mistakes on the practice tests (I am sure I will be more focused on test day)?
My practice tests started out at around 2000 and went up to the low 2200s over the course of 1.5 months and 10 practice exams. I ended up getting a 2120. Then again, I had to travel over 100 miles to the nearest testing location and I slept in an unfamiliar environment the night before.
I wouldn’t want to scare you, but the stress of the exam usually hurts more than it helps. I was somehow pretty relaxed, so I can’t say it did either for me. On the other hand, the kids next to me seemed top busy biting their nails to focus. If you can keep calm under stress and get an optimal amount of sleep, your score should be within the range of your practice exams. Hoping for something above your highest practice test ever would be a bit too optimistic IMO. Luckily, you have plenty of time to practice your way into the 2100 zone.
Your score will vary by 50-100 points.
I was did another practice test today and I got a 2175 on exam number 8 from the second edition…
Are some tests easier than the actual thing??
I mean I was a bit more focused on this one because i tend to make a lot of careless errors.
@Upenngirl98 You can’t get a 2175, all the scores on the SAT are multiples of 10.
Yeah I know but the scores are from ranges after test three so i just average each section up… the score came out to be weird but its a good estimate.
Well, that’s up to you, but I’d advice you not to average it.
^^Agreed.
If you average your score, you won’t get a proper estimate of what your score will actually be. With practice tests 4-10, I use an online calculator (since they give you a score range, which is really aggravating). The reason why practice tests 1-3 have a definite curve is because they were previously administered exams. If you have not done them yet, I advise you to do them when the time gets closer to the date of your exam (they are the most accurate tests).
Here’s the online calculator; its extremely accurate IMO. Go based on the score it gives you, and the score with the highest-chance percentage from each section.

My essay question on my first SAT was essentially the same as one from the blue book…
@albert69 Lol, one of my friends who took the January SAT had an essay question that was identical to the one from Practice test #10.
