I've recently received a message saying that I am eligble for the Blue & Gold Opportunity Plan. Is this plan a separate financial aid/grant?

Like if I qualify for it, will I get more financial aid assistance?

Or was it already implemented via my Cal Grant A, Pell Grant, and UCB Scholarship?

Thanks :)!

The Program guarantees that students whose family income is less than $80K (per FAFSA) in 2011-12 will receive a financial aid package with sufficient grant (i.e., no repayment required) aid – from ALL sources (including those you mention) – to fully pay tuition & fees ($13,360 in 2011-12). If you have additional financial need (as determined by total cost of attending Cal MINUS expected family contribution per FAFSA), it will be covered by a combination of grants and student loans.

^It’s worth noting that Blue and Gold covers only systemwide fees, not the campus-specific fees that Cal tacks on. Cal doesn’t add a huge sum, though.

Hey, I got the same thing. I wondered about it for a while, but now I know exactly how it works.
Think of it as a promise, rather than a separate grant or something like that. All it really means is that if your family makes under a certain amount, the school will -most certainly- give you enough financial aid to pay for your tuition and other fees. There isn’t some grant called “Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan” that goes along with your undergrad scholarship and your pell grant. The Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan is just the school promising that your pell grant and your undergrad scholarship will be enough to cover your fees and your tuition.

That said, it DOESN’T cover the cost of books, or the cost of living on campus. I tried. :(

Wow, you bumped the thread when I first got admitted to Cal :p! What a weird experience XD!

Well yeah, the b&g plan is somewhat useless if you have max pell grant & cal grant already :p!
