A horrific accident occurred in the early morning hours in Atlanta. A charter bus carrying the Bluffton University (Ohio) was en route to a game and tournament in Florida when it apparently exited off I-75 but fell off the exit overpass back onto the highway. Six are confirmed dead, 29 injured, 9 are critical. At that loction on I-75, there is an exit ramp on the left-hand side of the highway from the HOV lane. They believe that the bus was in the HOV lane, and apparently mistook the exit lane/ramp for the continuation of the highway. This would cause the bus to be going at possibly full speed up the exit ramp when it reached the overpass, causing it to careen over the wall back onto the highway. From the pictures, it looks like the driver may have tried to navigat the overpass and tried to turnto get onto it, but the momentum forced the bus over the wall, landing on its side across all lanes of I-75 South. The highway is expected to be shut down all day as they continue the investigation. My prayers and sympathies to any of you who are affected by this tragic accident. I will keep the local news on and keep you abreast of any updates. Here is the full story

They just had a news conference- 19 students were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Three are in surgery and listed as critical, 16 have mild to moderate injuries. Three were taken to Piedmont Hospital and 7 to Atlanta Medical Center (formerly Georgia Babtist Hospital). No report on the status of these 10 students taken to the other hospitals.

This is a very sad story..I've been following it on CNN this morning.

This is so sad! Frankly I'm surprised that not more people died.
My freshman son has his first college baseball trip to Arizona the 16th of this month! They are flying, but it still makes me think "it could've been my kid."

Update:
The busdriver, his wife and 4 students were killed. Ones is still critical, 3 are serious, but alert and talking. They said that they had just switched busdrivers about an hour or so before the accident. The bad weather was gone by 5:30 this morning- so weather was not a factor . 404-870-4440 is the emergency contact phone # should anyone need to find out the status of any of their children
