BME experience

My daughter is down to the wire in deciding between Pitt and Rochester. She loves Rochester’s size and campus, but one of her concerns is with the more theoretical nature of the engineering program at Rochester. She really enjoys project based and hands-on learning. She’s also a bit concerned by the chart indicating where Rochester BME students end up after graduation if she goes straight into industry. It looks like most students stay in the New York area, which would be fine if that was where people wanted to end up, but she would like to know that her degree could get her entree into jobs in the field in other locations. Given Rochester’s location, I’m wondering if fewer companies recruit there? Finally, she’s also concerned about the class sizes in engineering.

If anyone has experience with Rochester engineering, and the BME department specifically, would welcome your feedback. How large were your classes throughout your time? Did you enjoy them and your professors? Would you describe the academics as more theoretically based than at other programs? Finally, did you feel like you had good options for after graduation if you didn’t want to go right into grad school?

Thanks for any input!
