hey i’m an admitted Pratt student thinking of majoring in BME and I think that’s what i want to do but I didn’t learn any physics 1 and chemistry 1 at my HS and what i did learn i’m not confident in. So am i going to be worlds behind because i know you take chemistry your fall semester of freshman year and physics spring semester of freshman year? and will Duke help me if i need a lot of help with the “rudiments” of those subjects.Thank You!
Yes, it is rigorous. However, in my opinion, BME is a decision for the future, not quite yet. You’ve been admitted to Pratt – CONGRATULATIONS, that is great – but you will take many “general courses” (distribution, core, etc. – call them what you wish) at both Trinity and Pratt in your first semesters. Furthermore, you are not required to declare a major (as I recall) until the fourth semester. Therefore, in my opinion it might be wise to discuss your goals and background with your Pratt Adviser in August, rely heavily on his guidance, and (during your first two or three semesters) ascertain both in what direction(s) you truly want to head and how to do so. You are FAR from the first Pratt freshman to face very similar questions, and your Advisers is there to help you in every possible way.
Yes it is rigorous but it is simply a question of preserving in chem, bio, and physics among the other BME classes. Many students have advantages in some areas and disadvantages in others. If you are willing to work hard you will be fine
