So, in Anatomy today, we had an, ah, pleasant surprise. Calipers, scales, and this thingy that you hold by your side and squeeze to see how strong you are. Funfunfun. We had to partially remove clothing to pinch ourselvs (with calipers) on arms, subscapular region, back of thigh, front of thigh, abdomen, hip, and chest. I felt sorry for some people who were obviously humiliated, and then had to share measurements.

we did that in HEALTH EDUCATION but it was on a volunteer basis to go up and show the class your measures...only 5 or 6 kids did...your teacher made fat kids say their weight???

Body Mass Index measurements in class and you guys had to share....

You're teacher allowed that in class?

I'm not saying it's horrible, but it's pretty obvious that people will be embarassed if they have a very high or low BMI.

That sucks, for some. I remember some people being really upset in health when they got their results back from our BMI type thing. We did this elctronic-type measurement thing, can't remember what it was called. I'm pretty sure mine said I was way skinnier than I really was.

Yeah, we did it in groups, the scales were in the middle of the lab with people clamoring around them, and others had to caliperize you.

BMI should be kept private, not public...that was wrong and is a violation of privacy.

And, of course, some girls were walking around in their bras and jeans, saying "I'm just sooo fat" when they weigh 120.

I was grinning and bearing it, minus the grinning part. I don't like being pinched by random people in various places, freak that I am.

^^^I know! This one girl in my class took off so much clothes to go to the front for it....shes like freaking 80 pounds, saying "I haven't been to the gym in a while, Im scared"...Now I weigh 190...which is a lot im trying to lose, but im 6'1 or 6'2 so I don't like so fat at all as you might think...just starting to get a bit of a gut which I must lose this summer...

The scales made everyone 10 pounds heavier, too. One girl was like "135!!! Why am I so FAT!"

I got a laugh out of that, though, because she was with a larger girl, who she nearly brought to tears, talking about how she couldn't "fit her into the calipers."

My BMI is like 18 or something- not too fat, not too thin!

no thats pretty thin, supermodel?? avg is what 23 ?? or am i off?

Healthy is like 18-25 for a girl.

lablondie's right - too skinny, supermodel!
lol fitting name.

I hate all kinds of "Healthy" and "Unhealthy" measurements. It never takes into account athletes. I'm a pretty well built, muscular(not to toot my own horn...) 5'5" 177lbs and the "healthy" weight for someone my height is SUPPOSEDLY 125-135. My BMI according to most websites is in the overweight and borderline obese range. I can do absolutely nothing but chuckle at this.

well they warn you before the bmi test that if you are an athlete, its not accurate.

and i think 18 is actually kind of large where i live-
in Los Angeles, you cant walk down Rodeo Drive past 16 and not have someone call you a cow!
sad... but true!

Is not BH a haven for anorexics, however, with the rich people?

"well they warn you before the bmi test that if you are an athlete, its not accurate."

They do?? Every time I give'r a go online its just boom!, type your weight and height and bang!, your BMI is 29.5... .5 from being obese. gigglygoo

It gives me great comic relief when I need it...

Meh, Los Angeles is an awful city with awful people. They can suck it!

BMI relates to your bodyfat %

Most bodybuilders keep theirs @ 8 during competition
@ 12% one can see their abs
Under 14% is most healthiest ideally

los angeles is not awful---
its just some people are rich and snobby here

dont worry- if you are athletic, you shouldnt worry about obesity

go grab a doughnut and enjoy!
your friends dont compare their abs with giselle bunchen's like we do here!
