I live in Japan. I think most kids who are into anime are online, but there are a few board games. If you search under “all” and “anime board games” on Amazon, a few will pop up. There are more if you search on Amazon Japan, but that is probably not very helpful to you. Shogi is not anime-related, but is a very popular traditional board game, often compared to chess. Go is another traditional board game. Karuta is a traditional card game based on speed-matching. these can all be found on Amazon.

It’s a two person card game, not a board game, but it’s got beautiful anime style paintings on the cards and I thought it was pretty fun to play as well. Hanamikoji | Board Game | BoardGameGeek

Yes, Tokaido is fun to play and pretty to look at. I think the game is more interesting if you have 4 or 5 people playing.

No specific suggestion but maybe check Etsy? I was thinking it would be so cool if you found someone who does custom work, and you could have that person hand- or computer-illustrate a sent of anime art cards for any game (playing cards, Uno, etc) and have it personalized to your recipient?
