Free Rice

Anyone play this game as a way to build up their vocab?

I do sometimes. I don’t find the words to commonly-used/tested, but it is more motivating than flashcards.

Sometimes. I like the other games better, though. The ones involving geography. :D

I’ve done it just for the charity aspect. It doesn’t really seem to add to my vocabulary, though.

I love FreeRice! I don’t use it as much as I used to though…

How much is one grain of rice anyway? When I played the game, I thought I was giving a piece of rice, but that would be cruel though.

^They give you 10 grains per correct answer (was 10, then 20 for a while, then site exploded in popularity so 10 again), and I may be wrong but I remember hearing that 10,000 is what it takes to feed a child per day.

Art History FreeRice rocks; same with the world capital/geography ones.

I find the English vocab there a bit strange as well.

Did Geography FreeRice, the only ones I couldn’t do were small afro-countries. Vocab freerice seems dumb.

The vocab can get pretty obscure past level 35.

^^^I love the art history too.

I’ve only done it and English vocab, I think. Maybe vocab in randomly selected languages I don’t speak as well.

I love free rice!! I use it for my vocabulary and for geography.

What’s the highest score you guys have gotten on vocab, 35… that’s amazing.

I did it occasionally. It was better practice for identifying roots than actually expanding vocabulary. I once raced my English teacher during class. The highest I ever got was around 43, maybe higher after they changed the format. If I could stick around 40 it was a good day.

haha that’s beast, you beat your teacher?

At that time I played a lot, so I recognized a lot of the words and could do it quickly. Just trying it now, they seem to have added a lot more words. Hovering between 45 and 49.
