Hey guys I need some help… im sooo confused!
well I am international and i have been researching BS for quite some time now and I was so enthusiastic about it but now im not so sure. Like, I love the thought of going but I guess im just kinda scared like moving so far away. There is also the fact that I would need some major financial aid andf so basically I need to apply for the very selective ones and im pretty sure about my grades and stuff since they are pretty good but my EC’s are not that great at all so im a little scared about applying and not getting into any because the money for he application if youre international is A LOT! BTW my parents say that they know how hard it is to get into these schools but that the only way to know is applying and then take it from there. Also, I know the schools are very hard academically and even though I like that it is challenging is there really any time for a social life, i mean i think this is pretty important. I also have no idea where to apply but i think that my limit is about 3 schools and I requested some viewbooks but I am missing the Andover 1 although I requested it like a month agoo!!
PS: sorry for the long post but it would really help if someone gave me their opinion on what I should do.

Take this one step at a time. Apply to schools, and make sure to choose 1 reach school (25% acceptance rate or below), 1 average school (26%-35%) and 1 safety (>35%). Make sure to be yourself during your interviews and to work REALLY hard on your essays and applications. Once you (hopefully) get accepted, you can start to worry about moving away. Good luck!

PS: You said you are international, so that is probably why the Andover viewbook is taking so long.

Thank you @ballerina!
Well thats very good advice but I dont know if it works for my case because since I need nearly whole FA the only ones that give these are schools like andover, exeter and pretty much all that are reaches. But maybe I could work something out… could you give me some other schools that could work as averages and reaches? That would be really helpful.
Besides you really helped oh btw just as I was writing this my Hotchkiss viewbook came! hahaha I didnt even remember that one…

Some examples:
Reach- Andover, Exeter, St. Paul’s, Groton, Deerfield, Choate, Hotchkiss, Milton, Lawrenceville, Middlesex, Peddie, Taft, Cate, Thatcher

Average - St. Marks, St. George’s, Loomis Chaffee, Blair, St. Andrew’s, Suffield, Westminster, Brooks, The Hill, Episcopal

Safety - Northfield Mount Hermon, The Master’s School, Williston Northampton, Portsmouth Abbey, Holderness, Asheville

Hey does someone know if there are fee waivers for the ssat exam?? because I called the admission offices in some schools but I forgot to aks if they give fee waivers for the ssat

I’m applying to Madeira, Chatham Hall, St. Margaret’s, Emma Willard and Miss Porter’s

I’m applying to Deerfield, Hotchkiss, Choate, St. George’s, and Episcopal.

I think my final list is Hotchkiss, Andover, Choate, Exeter, and Milton. No safeties at all…sigh…

All I know is after the interviews all I want to do is go home and sleep.

Faithlara, look at schools with a high boarding to day percentage for a better weekend social life. I looked one place last year that had a handful of boarders total. The dorms were gorgeous but it would have been so lonely. You can get that info off boarding school review. As for social reputations and maybe a lighter but still intense workload–dont just look at Hades!!! I have heard many US boarding schools do not give financial aid to international applicants at all, but I could be wrong. Good luck!!!

Rizzledrizzle if you are crew why aren’t you looking at TAFT!!!

Applying to Deerfield, Andover, Exeter, Milton, NMH, and potentially Choate and Groton.

It’s go big or go home for me in this process.

I’ve narrowed my list to St. Marks, Kent, NMH, Deerfield, Pomfret, Middlesex, Tabor, and Taft
GO CREW!

I’ve decided to apply to Dana Hall, Peddie, Concord, NMH, and Westminster. I’m still contemplating whether or not I’m going to apply to Lawrenceville, Exeter, and Blair.

Also, I did my Peddie interview on Thursday (skype) and I just had my NMH interview yesterday (I met with one of the admissions counselors at a hotel in San Francisco)!

Hey thankyou @chukkerhead im applying to 3 schools hotchkiss, andover and taft I know they are all very selective but they are the ones that I want and if I dont get in… well I guess it just wasnt meant to be. @Starkali how did your skype interview go since I think all my interviews will end up being by skype too, any advice?? was it awkward anything you can tell me would really help!

My reply just disappeared but what I said was good luck and at least you are international and your whole grade isn’t applying to the same schools like mine is! t is kind of funny but not really.

@Faithlara, For the most part it went pretty well! It was much shorter than my in-person interview. I didn’t really have any technical difficulties or anything. Make sure you test it out the night before, so that you don’t have problems the next day.

I am applying for either or both Lawrenceville and Andover for grade 10! Its a long shot, but if I don’t get in I know I will be fine :)

I’m applying to Loomis Chaffee, Miss Porter’s, and Cate.

HAHHAHAHA @chukkerhead youre funny although I know what you mean! and yeah im kind of (not really at all) lucky to be international since I dont have much competition from my school or actually my country and its kind of under represented so lets hope it helps for something! @ starkali glad to hear it went well but do you think a skype interview affects the admission decision or something?? karategirl Im also applying for Andover 10th grade! chukkerhead what grade are you applying for?
