School's I've decided to apply to for 2012 Junior Year

I've decided to apply to these schools for 2012-2013 year. I would be a junior (11th) that year.

Andover
Exeter
Deerfield
Hotchkiss
Milton
St.Pauls
Choate
Hockaday
Emma Wilard
Grotan
Lawrenceville
Taft
Loomis Chafee

Any others? Any I should take off? I want good schools with good academics and good campuses. Could you tell me a little about each school, the good and the bad? :)

Well since you have Emma Willard and Hockaday you could add Miss Porter’s ,but maybe you should narrow your list down a bit.

Here’s what I think of when I hear some of those schools’ names. I hope I don’t come off as a teacher telling you what these schools are, because these are just the vibes I get from what little I hear.

Noo, but really. I wanna share my thoughts, but don’t assume they’re widely correct, pleeease!

Deerfield - gorgeous rural campus, spectacular science center!! o.o miles away from any town (students don’t get off campus very often). one of the most “preppy” schools.

Exeter - the heaviest on academics & one of the most well known schools. suburban campus. i heard people who toured it say the atmosphere was depressing ._. uses harkness table.

Choate - an “artsy” school with an awesome dining hall

Emma Willard - beautiful architecture! i read that living w/o guys lets girls feel more confident with less drama and less pressure to even wear makeup.

Groton - a small school with emphasis on the greek/latin subjects.

Lawrenceville - ‘more well-rounded school’. heavier on arts and sports than most schools. gorgeous rural campus! also uses harkness table.

I know pretty much nothing about the others. I hope this isn’t a completely SET list yet, because tours are huge decision makers too which will narrow down your list.

From what I’ve heard, Deerfield is by far the preppiest. Rigorous academics, beautiful campus, and it’s not as far from civilization as others might make it seem.

Deerfield15, u havent even started school there yet, and you will seriously be reconsidering that statement after a while.
I went to Eaglebrook which was right beside deerfield academy for a whole 2 years, and i have had enough of that town for a lifetime.
But to balance things out a bit though, i do agree with the “rigorous academics and beautiful campus” part. Also a preppy school stunning science center.

oh also @ amuchan, a good list but as others said u can cut out a few. junior year has some really limited space though.

I guess it just depends on how you look at it. I’ve always lived in the city so “country” life is appealing
And when I visited the nearest town wasn’t that far away.

I wouldn’t consider Lawrenceville rural. The actual town doesn’t offer much, but Princeton is literally up the street. I also didn’t get the impression that they put emphasis on the arts, but they are very sports-heavy.

Haha I put a bunch of schools because of the fact that junior yearis hard to get in. My real focus is academics. Are any of these schools not good academically? :)

I’m in the exact same position you are - same year, grade, everything
I’m not applying to nearly as many schools … approximately 5 or 6 from your list.
I know that junior is definitely very, very, VERY, hard to get into, but I was more limited in my choices because I wanted to make sure that the schools I applied to offered swimming as a sport - I guess swimming is a lot more rare on the east coast than it is here.

And, I think I would go insane with all those applications, essays, interviews, etc… especially since I have a pretty heavy load for sophomore year already.

All the schools you’ve listed are pretty famous, though they vary greatly in their focuses, communities, etc. I’m sure that they’re all academically excellent, but just be sure that if you were accepted to only one of those from the list, you would be happy where you ended up. If not, I wouldn’t recommend spending the time - and money! - to apply.

Good luck, and hopefully we will have good news to tell each other in March!

Hockaday and Milton have low % of boarders. Something to strongly consider when looking at BS.
