Boarding School Chances- Deerfield, Choate, Andover, The Gunnery

Hi!
My first time on here, but I wanted to see what you guys think my chances are for boarding school.
I am a 9th grader at a private school in New Jersey. I’m applying for 10th grade. My schools are as follows:
Deerfield
Choate
Andover
The Gunnery (my safety)

I jumped into the admissions process pretty late (decided I wanted to apply mid December, application deadlines are mid January), so I haven’t taken the SSAT yet. I knew I had four weeks to study for it, and I don’t have a tutor. I took a practice test without studying and earned a 2159 (75-79%). After a week of studying (2 hours a day using Princeton Review book), I took another practice test and earned a 2260 (95%). Looks like I went up about 100 points in a week, and I have two more weeks until I take it.

In terms of academics, I would say I’m pretty smart but certainly not a genius. I have A, A, A-, B+, B+ (my school doesn’t give A+s). I have done better in 7th and 8th grade- those grades are also sent to the schools. I am in 4/5 honors courses this year (English, French, history, geometry, not science), as well as a theater class.

I am pretty involved in extracurriculars. I have played lacrosse since 6th grade. I am very involved in theater, performing in various plays over the years- including Macbeth- and this year I am in a musical, Nice Work if You Can Get It. I write for my school newspaper and school arts newsletter. I do photography and am the photo editor for the newsletter. I am also the “still photographer” for the movie my high school is producing this year. I do a LOT of community service. I organized a charity 5K for pediatric cancer last year in 8th grade with four other students, advised by two teachers (raised $7,000). I went on a service trip to New Mexico over the summer. This year, I am in a club at school that helps the homeless population of New York City (about a 30 min drive from my house/school). I also tutor underprivileged elementary school-aged kids weekly. I do Model UN too, and tour students and parents around my school. Last year before graduating Middle School, I won an award that was given to eight out of the 93 kids in my grade. It’s basically for being a good person, and one that “embodies” every aspect of what my school wants you to be.

I interview very well and adults usually really like me. I’m getting glowing recommendations from English and Math teachers, and am putting the teacher that advised me on the charity 5K for my supplemental recommendation. She LOVES me.

Is there any chance? All responses and inputs welcome, thank you so much!! Let me know if you need more info or have any questions.

You look great “on paper!” Good luck to you!

Thank you! How do my chances look to you?

Forgot to mention: I have traveled rather extensively, and am a dual citizen of America and New Zealand. I am a white female. Please comment and help me out here! It’s greatly appreciated!

You look great on paper…you are as interesting as most applicants. 50/50

Thank you! How do you think I measure up to other applicants for my schools (Deerfield, Choate, Andover, The Gunnery)?

Though even the most qualified applicants are not guaranteed admissions, I belive you are in range. Study hard for the SSAT and good luck!

Agreed!
