kevster, hopefully your'e a boarder. day students almost never decide not to go. As I stated earlier, call cate and tell them that despite being on the wait list, they are still your 1st choice. say something like " what can I do to get off the list and become a cate student'? keep the lines of communication open. If you recieve any awards inside the classroom or out immediatelt let them know. kevster, understand i don't have any qualifications for this stuff , but common sense says communicate.
GOOD LUCK! keep us posted.

fxMom
Hmm, you can't go wrong with that list of schools

Congrats everyone.! Lots of good news!!

No I didn't. Did your son get in?

thanks prepparent you helped me a lot. Luckily, I am a boarder. Yesterday, I sent them some questions and told them why i should be accepted to cate

My son didn't get in. He currently goes to another private nearby. Are you going to continue at your current school? Don't forget there are schools around that admit at 7th grade, so if you don't get off the waitlist, see what other opportunities are available for next year. Good luck.

Congratulations to all who have received acceptances! For those who did not get into their first choice, there is always next year...and I speak from experience. My son applied to Exeter and did not get in as a freshman. He did, however, get in the next year and spent three wonderful years there.

FYI. We live just 25 minutes from Exeter. The son of someone I work with, who also lives in the same town, received their decision from Exeter in the mail today. Unfortunately, it wasn't positive news. He does have other choices, however, which is good news.

For those who have been waitlisted, I would give you the following recommendation which was given to my son who was waitlisted by his #1 college choice...and this comes from the Exeter College Counseling office...so I would guess that it would apply for prep schools also. If you decide to be placed on the waitlist, write a letter to the Admissions Office and "restate your reasons for wanting to attend the school, mention any recent accomplishments or pertinent new information about which the school may not be aware and emphasize that you will attend if offered admission from the waiting list." (The section in quotes was taken directly from the Exeter College Counseling Office Guidebook) They also say "Resist the urge to telephone admissions offices to lobby on your own behalf. " As well as "Above all else, try to maintain perspective and a sense of humor. Remember that you probably have wonderful choices available to you." You can view the entire Exeter Guidebook at http://college.exeter.edu/c3-cco/library/library.pl

In my son's case, he followed these recommendations and received an offer into his first choice school.

Good luck!

What was your son's college choice?

I got into Exeter, WHEW!!!

i got into THACHER!!!

Except...I was waitlisted for Financial Aid...And my family can't afford to pay the entire tuition...Does anyone have any ideas??

Congratulations!!

I have no clue about the FA situation, I have no experience whatsoever, but I hope it works out.

superior child, how did you know about your acceptance to Exeter?

I'm hoping I'll hear from Exeter tomorrow. Did anyone else get recruited for the "Student from Every Quarter" thing at Andover?

Esa, I think that's more of Andover's policy than some actual club or something. Where did they mention it in your acceptance letters? I remember reading about the "Student from Every Quarter" thing as well somewhere in my acceptance letters.

buuuuuuuuuump!

snort

My name's Tara, too.
I'm a girl.
I don't know about the other Tara, though.

ahh.. i got rejected from andover! Exeter also rejected me... there goes my first and second choices! Im still waiting for milton, deerfield, and emma willard.. ive got a good feeling milton and deerfield are going to reject me too..

I am so disappointed to be Waitlisted for Exeter. I cried the entire night.
Anyone have any ideas how to get off the waitlist?

By the way, Indochick, I think you were just unlucky. My stats are much worse than yours but I still got waitlisted. I think mine was a courtesy, like, "Thanks for showing so much interest in Exeter, but you're nowhere near good enough."
Don't worry, I think you'll get into at least one of your remaining three.

What do you guys think about Lawrenceville? I applied to 3, waitlisted at Exeter and I got into that and Choate. I'm thinking about Lville because I have a friend there... What do you think?

Who else got waitlisted for their 1st choice? How do you think you're going to get off the waitlist?

indochick, you still have 3 schools left. I know it's easy to feel the way you do rightnow, but hang in. look your'e still in this game with 3 very good schools left.

tara, lawrenceville and choate are schools to die for......... do the revisit days, and then decide. if FA is an important issue then of course this will be a deciding factor.

I'm still waiting for Exeter's decision...esa said he got his Exeter letter with priority mail. Is priority mail Fed Ex, UPS (brown truck), or just regular USPS? I went to the USPS site and they had priority mail as an option, so I'm guessing priority mail is USPS.
Does USPS come in your mailbox or does it get delivered to your house by the truck (this is assuming you dont have your own mailbox and that you have to walk a block to get to your mailbox, which has individual mailboxes for the neighborhood and two big compartments for larger packages)?

you cried because you were put on the waitlist? You got into choate!congratulations
and i reallyshouldnt be lecturing people on crying,lol....
