Thanks a lot prepparent.. wish i had applied to more culturally diverse schools then!
Oh wow TJ.. is nigeria anything like south africa? i went to SA for vacation last december and it was awesome there! Actually in terms of life story, I moved to London when I was 2 and lived there for 5 years, and two years ago I just moved back to Indonesia from living in New York City for 3 years. My dad's a diplomat, thats why I move around a lot. But I dont think I mentioned any of this in my formal application, I did mention bits of it in my essays and to my interviewer though!

prepparent, what part of texas do you live in?
I live in texas as well, and I'm hoping the letters come by Saturday because if they don't, then I'll have to wait until Monday since the post office is closed on Sundays...

Nightflarer, I live in San Antonio , texas. Where did you apply? Good Luck!

Another Texan here- Dallas. S is a junior at a northeast boarding school. Good luck to all of you, and I'll be glad to answer any questions. We have absolutely NO regrets about sending him (and his older sister) away to school.

I believe that you have a good chance at Andover. When I went on my tour, everyone was so proud of having students from all over the world. Any international student with moderately good criteria I am sure will be accepted.

What did you think about the international school experience? I am applying to one in Greece (ACS), but that is my last choice at this point. The facilities weren't nearly as impressive as those of schools in the U.S.

IndoChick, make sure to post your results on our results thread. I am sure that everyone heere will be interested in hearing your results!!

P.S. Don't worry about your SSAT percentile, that is actually really good. Usually what these schools do is if you score below something like an 83%ile they count it as a con.

MoMof wildchild, My d also goes to a boarding school in the NE. Whats crazy is our kiddos couls actually know each other.

No tj, I decided against applying to Durham Academy, because it was really overly preppy and hardly any diversity. I really didn't like it and plus I want to board.

Thanks superior child!
Honestly, I wouldn't recommend going to an international school. Mostly because admission to these schools aren't based on merit or achievement, its simply whether or not your parents can afford to pay the tuition. A lot of the extremely rich indonesians here in jakarta send their kids to international schools in the hope that they can learn to speak english. And so, the student body is pretty much divided between the foreigners who are native english speakers and the indonesians who are totally clueless. There's actually a lot of racism around and although I am not close to any of the other indonesian students, I admit that my foreign friends have absolutely no regard for the customs here in indonesia (indonesia's the world's most populous Muslim nation, so its pretty religious around here).
Anyway, yeah ill post up my results in the other forum as soon as I get them! I know that Exeter, Hotchkiss, and the Hill will publish their decisions online. But what about andover, milton, and deerfield? I read somewhere on the application packet that we're allowed to call the school for the decision if we havent yet received the notification on March 10th... does this violate the ten schools agreement?

Decision Posting Times:
Exeter...9:00am EST
Hotchkiss....6:00pm EST
St. Paul.......??? (Does anyone know?)

I think they said you can call if you don't recieve the notices by MARCH 15, not the 10th. The acceptances/rejections get mailed the 10th.

oh okay then.. Do u think they would airmail the decision letters to indonesia? Because regular mail takes atleast two weeks!
Does anybody know if decisions are available online (through email) for andover, milton, or deerfield?

Is Exeter using the Lion Links page as access to the decisions?

https://lionlinks.exeter.edu/

oh and what does it mean if you're waitlisted? How long will it take before you know for sure whether you're accepted or not? And, how many people are generally waitlisted for a school like exeter or andover? Somebody explain this to me please..

Yeah, I'm pretty sure about that. What I'm not sure if its gonna just show you whether or not you're accepted or have a link from the home page showing your decision.

yes fx mom, it is..
but im predicting that the links might not work as efficiently because a lot of people are going to be logging on to the server at the same time.

How long afterwards do you have to decide/commit to a school after they accept you? I just checked St. Paul's site and they do not accept enrollment commitments prior to April 11.

The number of people waitlisted can vary from year to year. What needs to happen for one to get off the waitlist is for someone like you (with your interests, abilities, background) who was accepted to decide not to attend. The waitlist is not in numerical order. When someone turns down an offer to attend the school looks at its list and decides who on the waitlist can now fill that place best. Perhaps the person who turned the school down was an accomplished musician, or a great debater...whatever. The school will reveiw the waitlist to find someone similar.

well its final! I just checked my online notification from exeter.. and no i did NOT get accepted. ::sigh:: Im a bit disappointed yes, and I feel kinda numb but I guess it just wasnt meant to be.
However, I am still hopeful that my 2nd choice (andover) will be different.. Wish me luck everyone!

i got waitlisted at Exeter.
I'm so embarassed.

Waiting on Lawrenceville and Choate now...

indochick:

Based on last few years admission data I have noticed that Andover is harder to get into as compared to Exeter. But I could be wrong. Good luck to you :)
