Hello everyone!

I see a lot of kids posting online about their achievements and makes me feel like im crap. I have not taken my ssat's yet but I will soon. Any advice for the application? Also can you tell me if my list of EC's are adequate for school?

Hello yjlee909, and welcome to CC.

First and foremost, never post even just your first name or other personally identifiable information on an online forum. Your name in combination with the fact you live in Doha will make it extremely easy to identify you. I’m contacting the mods to see if we can get your name redacted, so don’t worry, but don’t do it again.

Secondly, the CC crowd is pretty talented versus the standard pool. In addition to that, you never know if everyone is being entirely honest in their self-representation, so don’t let what may seem like extraordinary stats and accomplishments deter you from applying. The CC crowd represents some of the top applicants to boarding schools; not all applicants are as accomplished as some of the posters here represent themselves to be.

In terms of what you’ve posted, that all definitely looks like material to put on your application. Some posters are tempted to include every single tiny accomplishment they’ve accumulated in the past three years, and that makes an applicant look desperate and as if they are trying to compensate for inadequacies elsewhere in their applications. Needless to say, you don’t want that, so make sure you only include strong accomplishments that the admission officers will find interesting (like the ones you mentioned above).

Good luck with your application! My experience with Deerfield, coupled with that of other CC posters and friends from prep school, indicates that showing interest in Deerfield is extremely important for admission, possibly more so than other schools. They manage yield extremely meticulously, and a good deal of the time get it exactly right, so make sure you show them just how much you want to attend.

Thanks on your advice about boarding schools and CC. I’ll make sure I don’t make the same mistake twice. I have another question (hehe) I’ve been having a hard time in US history (I think I have a C or a B, which is like a 80-84%) however, my school grades us really harshly (like a 96 is an A) Do the boarding shcools look at your letter grade, your gpa, or you percentile grade? Thanks

I would imagine (i.e. don’t quote me on this) that letter grades on transcripts are the grades that admissions use and not percent grades. I don’t think my old school even included percent grades on transcripts; just letter grades. If your GPA isn’t on your transcript, admissions will calculate it.

In terms of percentILE, your SSAT percentile is definitely used in the admissions process. If your school ranks students, then your rank will be looked at as well.

Have your parent request an official copy of your transcript and what information is sent out along with the transcript.

This will tell you if the school has everything recorded correctly and how BS will view the transcript.

This was one of the best advice I have received. When you go to college - you should do the same. Do not assume that the school has correct information.

We had to point out some mistakes to schools.
