Boarding Schools -- Are students compared by school location or home location?

Hi,

I go to a boarding school in the Midwest with people from all over the country/world. I know that selective colleges generally compare applicants to other applicants from the same geographic area. Each admission’s person has a particular area that they cover. Coming from a very rural community in a rural state, I think this gives me somewhat of an advantage. However, I’m wondering, will I be compared to other students from my boarding school or will we each be compared to other students in our respective hometowns/home states? This would definitely change the level of competition.

Thanks!!!
Amber

Your boarding school.

College admissions reps cover schools. @doschicos is right. With that said, you could reference the influence your hometown had on you in the essays as that could help you stand out.
