Hi I am from the South but go to boarding school in the Midwest....

what region do they count me as for college admissions

thank you

I believe they look at home address

Ummmm.... I don't know about that. Certainly you'd be assigned to the docket of the regional admissions officer of your prep school. Let's say you're from N Orleans but attend Culver in Indiana and are applying to Columbia. There's no way the Columbia rep to Louisiana could be a superior judge to your achievements in your HS than the one assigned to Indiana. While your address is a point of interest, their 1st priority is evaluating you in your context.

Now say you come from an impoverished background and are a scholarship student at the prep school -- that might hold some sway...

Good luck to you

It's generally the state of your parents - where they pay taxes.

erin's dad: that makes perfect sense in terms of evaluating in-state vs. out-state tuition and other residency needs. However, I inferred from the OP that she wondered if her southern residency may give her an edge for the perceived "geographical diversity" boost. If so, I still maintain that she'll be considered under her target school's midwest region.

Maybe I inferred too much. Katie: can you tell us why you asked your question?

oh i am a finalist for a scholarship...the school told me to call my region's admission officer to RSVP...and i didn't know who to call...lol, thanks for your replies btw

is culver academies the best school in the midwest? i was going to apply there in 8th grade but didn't end up getting the chance to..

I don't know the relative strength of Culver. I just used Culver because it came to my head. My college roommate attended there.

My son goes to boarding school in one state but we live in another. I've asked this question on college visits, and every time I've asked, the answer has been that his school's state is what counts for admissions. The Adcom who covers that state will read his application. That Adcom will also be familiar with son's school. The rep who covers our state would not know son's school.

OP -- Contact the Adcom who covers the state your school is in.

Your home address is used to determine region for purpuses of geog diversity (ie: when the school repots enrolling students Xnumber of states and Ynumber of countries).

But IF YOU ATTEND BOARDING SCHOOL, your reader (the adcom assigned to your region and who reads/reviews apps from that regions) is determined by the location of your school. There are sometimes exceptions for transfer students if there is a designated transfer adcom or international students if there is a designated int'l adcom.
