In a previous thread, we were discussing how a school handles its remote status when it is not near a town or city.

I would like to open this topic to all remote schools.
Please feel free to identify your school. I know that there are many that I didn't know about, so I left off the ones that I know about to encourage others to post about their school.

Is a school ever isolated? Are there always weekend activies? Is having a town nearby something you miss or do you like the isolation and the bs bubble. Do you miss not having a place to get away (Starbucks or Ice Cream place?)

Do you all know each others business? Is this good or bad?

This is something my daughter feared when looking at schools. Isolation works well for some but definitely not others and for mine, the remote location of Hotchkiss and Deerfield–while amazing schools to be sure–were less appealing than ones located near larger towns that offered something extra to do off campus (for example DC or Newport). I know most schools really work hard to provide weekend entertainment for their students such as dances and things, but definitely I would think a school with a high day student population that maybe also has no Saturday classes might be emptier than one with a higher boarding percentage and six days of classes. This is something to ask a tour guide or current student, I would think. I would expect less privacy too, and people knowing your business. But at the same time, lots of friends living with you, which is wonderful.
