Boggled by Reccomendations....

So....it's that time to start asking teachers for reccomendation letters, and I am a bit boggled by what to do. I know that its preferable to have a humanities rec, then one from math/sci. However, I really feel that my history teacher and english teacher would write the best recs, not only because of my relationship with them and performance in their subject, but also because of their personality and writing styles. The math/science teachers that I have had (though I performed well in their classes) all have first languages other than English. Still, I want to have a math/sci rec in their somewhere...my intended major is polisci/quantitative analysis (statistics), so I think a math/history combo would be best.

What do you suggest?
And when is the best time to ask a teacher; end of Junior Year, or beginning of Senior?? I know that this can be an important part of the app, and so want to make the best of it.

Thanks =]

1) You don't need different areas for recommendations. Use the teachers with whom you have the best relationship or the ones you think will write the strongest recs. English & History are OK.

2) Best time is probably at the end of junior year, to get their commitment. You then give them the forms at the beginning of senior.
