Who should I ask for recs???????

I'm in a bit of a problem here. I don't know who to ask for recs. One of the teachers I was going to ask has moved to a different school. I want to ask my current English teacher but I've had her for less than 2 months. I don't have a science or math teacher to ask. This sucks. :(

only ask your best teachers and classes that you have done well in... english is a good choice, but as for math i would disagree. Dont ask a teacher who hasnt had a lot of experience or isnt known as one of the best teachers in your skool

Do you think I should ask the teacher that moved away to write me a letter of rec? Would it be a hassle to send her all the envelopes and stuff? I did really well in her class and she's a great teacher and I think she would be able to write a good letter but I'm not sure if I should bother her.

You say that you did really well in her class, so she probably wouldn't mind, right? I got one of my recommendations from a teacher who had just left the school, and it wasn't a big deal. I felt that he knew me better than any other teacher, and I explained that to him, so him not being at the school didn't really make a difference. Just make sure that you give her enough time to write the letter. The most important thing is that your recommendations will provide more insight to the admissions officers, so I'd definitely go for it.

Yes you can ask from the teacher who has left the school. It is better not to ask from a teacher who has not taught you for the whole year. Two months of class is not enough, the rec will carry little weight.

Okay thanks everyone. I got an email response from my teacher and she will do it for me! :D

I have another question. Will it be bad if I get a rec from a history and one from a history teacher? That's what I'm planning to do.

"...rec from a history and one from a history teacher? ..."

lol. Can't understand this one, but sounds funny.

Basically I will be getting recs from a history teacher and an English teacher. No math or science. Will this hurt me?

depends if you're going to major in the math/sciences. if not, it shouldn't matter.

but if you are majoring in math/sciences, then it WILL definitely matter :P

What if I'm undeclared?

The colleges will specifically tell you who to get recs from. Places such as MIT, Brown, Yale, WPI will ask for at least one math/science teacher. harvard asks for any two different subject teachers. Go to the website of each college you are applying to and check the requirement.
