Can you guys recommend me some good books to read?
I'm usually very girly, and like girly books, but I don't think those are the types of books that would impress teachers and colleges and things like TASP (though I doubt I'm applying).
I love intelligent humor... and I would love it if you guys could tell me some books that are significant in the literary world but not something hardcore and boring that you would read for English class (i.e. the Scarlet Letter - horrible)
Some books that I really love include the HP series and the Da Vinci Code.

yeah... im also in need of some good books... i read Angels and Demons which is good... and that was the first book i read in a year...

right now im reading Memoirs of a Geisha. I want to read it before the movie comes out here.... its really interesting to read about what their life is like since i always wondered what they were. No humor in that story but i just thought id share!

ok well i know it varies between people but I read Harry Potter and loved it, and I also loved John Grisham's books so you may like them as well. he basically writes Law thrillers and if u think about it, its pretty cool because i am not even that interested in law at all and i found his books amazing. i would recommend the Firm, the Street Lawyer, the runaway jury, actually any of his many many books would be good to start with (my first was The Firm). I would also recommend Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, granted i have not finished it yet lol. its really long but very very interesting. well thats all i can think of now

umm...i forgot the name and the author of the book, i think it's like "something something THE SWAN" i dunno. It's kind of long but it's girly and takes place during WWII. Haha, that wasn't really helpful I'm sorry.

Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle
Angels and Demons is Dan Brown's best book
The Runaway Jury, A Time to Kill, The Firm...good Grisham books
Catcher in the Rye is decent (some would say it's better than decent)
James Patterson books are usually good reads
So's Dean Koontz, but his books always involve something ... odd. But they're usually fun, suspenseful books.

I'm also an avid Tom Clancy and Robert Ludlum reader, but since you mentioned that your're "girly" I guess I'll pass on recommending those to you.

I generally read nonfiction, so I don't think any of my suggestions would interest you, but you never know:
The Soul of Capitalism, by William Greider
Democracy Matters, by Cornell West
First Democracy, by Paul Woodruff
Candide, by Voltaire
Animal Farm, by George Orwell

Oh wait, actually, a great, hilarious read is: Lies and the Lying Liars who tell them, by Al Franken

Tom Clancy "Rainbow Six", "Without Remorse"
Alistair MacLean "Caravan To Vacarres" "Night Without End"
Any Agatha Christie novel (Poirot)
L.A. Confidential
Any Michael Savage book

Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.
It's technically about the Apocalypse... but it's absolutely HILARIOUS. Intelligent, fast-paced humor :)

Read Twilight by Stephanie Meyers (sp?). It's an excellent girly book about vampires. I also recommend My Sister's Keeper by Jody something (more serious) and the Princess Diaries.

I would recommend any of Nicholas Spark's books. They are so good. And maybe the unfortunate events series although it's a little childish and easy.

i'm also a chiclit girl but I really enjoyed thriller/suspense books by James Patterson, especially First To Die.

the Shopaholic series are pretty good (as for light reads, not intelligenty stuff)
Also, the Stephanie Plum series are reallyt really really really really really really really great (by Janet Evanovich). THey are always best sellers. Very chic-y. But also, light reads.

I personally didnt like Jane Austn's novels, and those Anne of Green Gables series or soemthing. I never really passed the first chapters.
