<p>Best book I’ve read for essays: “On Writing the College Application Essay” by Harry Bauld
For the application, you don’t really need a book. I would recommend reading silverturtle’s guide from the SAT prep section though.</p>
<p>Also, if you search, there’s definitely a thread on this somewhere.</p>
<p>Bauld’s book is great - but there are many and they generally say the same kind of things.</p>
<p>A book is fine, but using a book for something like this is sort of like using a book to learn karate. In the end, it’s fine to use the book to get some ideas and basic direction, but you’re much better off if you consult someone about turning this general idea into a strong and pointed final essay.</p>
