I am determined to get a 36 on the ACT.
I will study all of summer to get it.
Can I ask those full markers, what books you used so I can prep with them.
I have so far got this ACT Master the ACT Assessment book and also some old practice tests.
So yes, please tell me the necessary books, so that I can purchase them and begin studying.
I have done a levels in physics, maths, further maths and chemistry. However my English is weaker and so will need to prepare accordingly.
Regards.
I got a 35, but I’ll post here anyways.
Use Barron’s to review/study - even though it’s harder from the normal ACT, it’ll prepare you for anything on the real deal.
Practice tests are your best friend - you’ll get a feel of the real test and types of questions with real practice tests.
@coltonhaynes
A good website for math review is ACT Quantum. http://www.ACTQuantum.com
For English, Barrons ACT 36 is a good book to get started with.
@HereToHelpYou Isn’t that an older one though :S
@coltonhaynes get the newest one
I reccomdeded that first book because of the English section. It is more extensive.

Thanks for your replies.
I just did a math practice test with no prep as in no prep for the math section of the ACT.
And I got 52/60 equating to a 30.
Is that good or bad? Math is my strongest point too.
that is very good for the first time. Did you time yourself? That is key
@HereToHelpYou Hey, I did I had time left over (5 mins) and guessed the 4 I had originally blank?
I was unaware that there is no penalty for guessing, to much sat2!
I can’t believe the curve is so high, it was the geometry and those data 3 part questions that I got wrong.
I can do second order differential equations, de moivres theorem, contingency tables, confidence intervals etc. so that maybe skews my maths score!
Hi just found this thread great stuff! I got a 23 on the English section and want to improve that to a 28-29 is that possible? I have the Barrons ACT book how should I learn the English material, more practicing or learning?
@sIronMan A 23 means you should definitely do more learning before you practice more.
Here’s the deal: I only bought one prep book.
I was projected at a 28 from my lousy PSAT. I earned a 30. This was incredibly disappointing to me at the time, so I bought the Princeton Review’s “Cracking the ACT 2015” book. I used it religiously (like 1-1.5hrs/day) for the week leading up to the June 13th ACT.
That book bumped me from a 30 to a 34.
Barron’s may well be a better guide, I do not know, but I’d vouch for mine.
BTW, I wish I could get a 30 in math.
Got 36-35-35-28.
30 math is a really impressive score. Reading is all practice (I read some 40pg/day XD), English is easy to do if you read enough (things won’t “look” right), Science is recognition of patterns, the Math test is the only one that you get rewarded on by your coursework. Master your curriculum and you just cracked the math section.
People in advanced math classes rock the ACT for it.
What do you guys recommend for studying English, I really need to improve my 23 to something higher please help!
