Books.

I was wondering can you anyone of you CCers reccomend any good books? I'm interested in books with gangs, violence, or war. I enjoyed 'The Outsiders' by S.E. Hinton, do you know any books that similar?

A Clockwork Orange, by Anthony Burgess

This isn't exactly a gang book, but I loved:

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

I know it sounds weird, but that book is one of the best I've read in my entire life.

That Was Then, This Is Now by S.E. Hinton is like the Outsiders but better. I loved it!

Gangs of New York
The Godfather

I second DisneyGuy. The Kite Runner is an AMAZING book.

Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut
All Quiet on the Western Front

Here's what the college board recommends. There are some great books on their list:

And some other reading:

I second Clockwork Orange. Also try The Things They Carried by O'Brien (great book about Vietnam) and Ceremony by Silko (also about Vietnam)

All Quiet on the Western Front
Catch-22

If you think you can stand it, try *Prisoners of the Japanese *by the Australian writer Gavan Daws.

But be warned, it's harrowing.

I second Catch-22. It's my favorite book of all time. I'm semi-addicted to it- instead of reading NEW books, I just read parts of Catch-22 over and over and over again... =)
But I am reading The Sound and the Fury now. It's difficult, but worth it.
