Hi all!! I haven’t seen a BC waitlist discussion started yet so I thought I would take the opportunity. Does anyone have any suggestions as how to maximize my chance of admission? BC really is my number one and I’d love to hear from any waitlist survivors (BC or not). Thanks!
A wholly unmanageable 5000 applicants placed on the wait-list year - only a few handful were taken.
Being on the waitlist means it’s time to focus and put all your energy into your “Plan B” schools. Nothing about getting off the waitlist is in your control. BC, like any school, will look to see who accepts admission by May 1st. Then it will selectively pick and choose off it’s waitlist to round out the diversity for the incoming class it’s trying to build.
Here’s a link to a great CC discussion on waitlists. Although it’s a few years old, it’s still relevant today and to BC.
All the best.
Send BC an email letting them know that BC is your number one school and if you get off the waiting list, you would take the spot. Also, keep them updated on any new awards so they can update your profile. Good luck!!
Just be yourself. Hopefully before now you have already built some sort of relationship with your admissions officer. I remember my first email with mine was even before EA notifications came out just to make sure all my info was received. A second communication was late January with updates after being deferred EA. And then after being waitlisted. So I traded emails and info probably 3 times between December and April. So December, late January, and early April. Just be yourself and explain why BC and why YOU.
Wow I just saw this and made one on accident. Yeah I got put on the waitlist too, and I have a question: Do we send our letter of continued interest to the portal as mentioned on the letter, do we send it by email, or do we send two different messages? I’m confused on that part. Also, can we send a letter of recommendation?
@florida19 DM @BCBoundMaybe He knows the system inside and out.
Following directions is always a good idea. That said, I’d load the LOCI to the portal as directed and also e-mail a copy of that letter to your Regional Rep.

Agree with those who say it’s time to move on. The odds are stacked against you.
Does anyone know when in May they typically release the first wave of waitlist offers?
The first wave is usually around the 15th of May.
Does anyone know how many were accepted off of the waitlist last year?
Wl 2016. 100
Wl 2017 16
Wl 2018. In between if I recall. Maybe in the 60 to 80 range. But I forget exactly.
@BCBoundMaybe will know exactly.
Getting off WL is like winning a lottery. Love the school that accepts you…
i agree, move on if it happens then great, but assume no chance
My guess: Out of 5000 on the WL, the majority were put there for public relations, and do not have any chance.
About 1000 are on the real list, a big chunk are for yield protection. many were already accepted by desired schools, and will not take it even if being offered admission.
So for those that are on the real list and are really waiting, the chance is not too bad if they have spots open.
The real issue is that no one knows whether you are on the real list and how many spots will be available.
@bluebayou I understand that, I was just a bit confused as it is not stated explicitly.
You and/or anyone else can answer, but where do I, or my teacher, send the recommendation letter as a supplement to my LOCI?
Any ideas when we’re suppose to hear back from the waitlist?
No idea, but I hope soon!!! It’s pretty nerve-racking now that some other schools have opened their waitlists.
Yeah, I’m in the same boat!! ^^^
