Boston College Connell School of Nursing

I just have a couple of questions. I was wondering how competitive is the nursing major at BC in comparison to other schools such as CSOM? How many do they accept into the school? Also, has anyone gotten accepted into CSON from prior year and what was your statistics?

Also a side question, does Boston College actually look at your application through a holistic approach? Does previous internship experience at hospitals help enhance your application? I shadowed at a nursing unit and was just wondering if it would give me a bit of a competitive advantage if I mention it.

Hi, I am a current student in MCAS, but I know many people in CSON.

In terms of actual competition during application, you are probably already aware that a student applies to each undergraduate school (meaning you apply either to MCAS, CSOM, LSOE, or CSON). CSON’s acceptance rate is proportionally equal to the other undergraduate divisions. In past years, around 110 was the mean sized nursing class. Again, as I am not a CSON student, I cannot speak to every facet of the nursing application.

What I can tell you is YES, BC does look at your application through a holistic approach. They want to see that you have gone out of your comfort zone and applied yourself (i.e. taking rigorous courses, leadership/involvement in clubs, community involvement/service). At the same time, if you have a passion, they really want you to express that to them. Partaking in a hospital internship does help show your interest, but bringing out that experience is helpful. What did you learn from that experience? What issues do you see in healthcare today? Were you inspired by the other nurses in that hospital? The sick patients? Did you think there was a better way to help care for them? Use this voice. That is what elevates you.

Hope this helps!
