Boston College for Pre-Law & Mock Trial Team ( 2023 )

Looking for feedback from current and past BC students who are on a Law Path to offer insights into how and why BC proves/proved to be a good choice for you.

Also would like to hear from the upcoming 2023 class with Law aspirations thoughts ? on why BC is your top choice.

Additional insights on the Mock Trial team and experiences would be much appreciated.

Please give some insights into your major/minor degree path and course selection that has proven particularly helpful in your journey. Particular classes or professors etc.

You may already know this, but “pre-law” programs are unnecessary and accordingly, not a factor I’d emphasize in choosing your undergrad. While I know several people who went on to attend law school after BC and have done very well in practice, each of their paths was different. Choose courses that interest you.

Yes & No…

Not seeking a path in particular. Seeking an understanding of those whose path at BC will or has led to pursuing Mock Trial at BC and likely law school upon graduation.

There are paths at various schools that are carved out that make sense at each school. Just looking for common threads…

I wish I could remember back that far, but I don’t think my roommates who went on to law school were involved in mock trial. The idea of law school didn’t occur to me until I had been working a couple of years after graduating (econ major) and I ended up a litigator. Another example: my spouse who attended college elsewhere was an engineer and also ended up a litigator, more specifically a trial lawyer, lo these many years later. Truly, following a well-worn, carved-out path in undergrad has no importance, though if that’s where your interests happen to take you, then fine. It’s nice to have another field of interest besides law, in case law school doesn’t pan out and because it adds perspective. I’m sorry I can’t help you about mock trial. Good luck!

Curious has your Econ background influenced your Law path in practice directly? Several schools have PPE ( Politics, Philosophy & Economics ) Degree ? or Certificate offerings that have my D18 interest. That and she looks to schools like BC ( top consideration ) with the intent of a major and minor which includes economics…

My favorite undergrad econ course, taught by my favorite professor who has since retired, was antitrust. (Caution, this is not a subject that everyone would love.) The economic theory from that course was great background for the law school course. Long story, but if I had a do-over, I’d probably aim for antitrust litigation. I don’t see an antitrust course in the current undergrad catalog; perhaps it isn’t offered every year.

Law school admissions is 95% GPA+LSAT score. Adcoms don’t care about major, unless its a vocational type major; they much prefer anything in the liberal arts, which includes lit/hume/STEM.

Any major from BC will prepare you well for LS. That being said, highly recommend adding Philosophy as a minor/double major.

fwiw: my son did mock trial in law school, and while a blast, it was a big time sink. And since he was already an Editor on Law Review, it was a waste of his time.
