Boston College or University of Florida for pre-med?

EMT has fallen out of favor in the last 4-5 years because, fairly or unfairly, EMTs have gained a reputation for being nothing but a “bus driver” unless the individual holds a higher level cert. (AEMT/EMT-I, EMT-P, wilderness first responder). EMS protocol requires the responder with the highest certification to take charge of the scene. In urban/ suburban districts where the ambulance is always staffed with a paramedic, plus at least one AEMT (often 2), there is very little left for an EMT-B do.

EMTs working in rural area may avoid this negative rap because help really is far away and first responders are often working at the very outer limits of their legal scope of practice.

The “hot” clinical experiences right now are: medical scribe, CNA, PCA, ER tech, and back room MA. Hospice volunteering appears to have many fans among SDN adcomms.

@WayOutWestMom : Thanks so much. ER tech’s requirements include CNA or EMT certification, so one step at a time.
