Hi everyone, I’ve narrowed down my college list to Boston College and Fordham, but am having an impossible time deciding between them which I better do quickly because I have less than a week I have to pay for everything pretty much myself and received 22K at Fordham and 14K at BC. I really like both schools and half of those Ive consulted have said to go to BC because of their ranking/reputation and the other half has said to go to Fordham because they gave me more money. I’m probably going to major in English or Communications with a Theater double major and a theology minor. For hobbies, I like creative writing (playwriting, stories, poetry etc), theater and campus ministry groups. I’m also interested in what the student body is like at each school (what people’s perceptions are of each). And if anyone could tell me their opinion about where I should go that would be great as I am pretty confused but happy with my choices. Thanks in advance for your help!

*Fordham’s Rose Hill campus btw

I am very prejudiced for BC, we have about 6 alum in our our family, including my H, BC has a better reputation academically and is ranked higher…

I spent a weekend on Fordham’s campus living with a student, and I’ve visited BC as well.

I liked BC much more. BC has a prettier campus, and has new insides as well.

The image put off by the school and by the student body seemed very different to me at Fordham. Fordham has a much bigger party scene than expected. A lot of people are out late drinking and partying every day of the week. 3AM seemed like the norm for going to sleep. At Fordham, you don’t have any real sports teams. The cool thing about Fordham though, is that you’re in NYC, so that means you can go to discounted plays and really experience the city. But that being said, Rose Hill is in the Bronx, so not the best neighborhood.

At Boston College, the student body seems a bit more clean cut. Not as diverse, and more into their studies than Fordham, although there still is a balance of social life at Boston College. The kids seemed much more friendlier. They also have top notch sports teams to add to the college experience. Boston is a cool city too, 1/5 of the population is a college student. And the area surrounding BC is much better/safer than Fordham’s. Academics seemed a lot better at BC to me than fordham.

Good luck with your decision. Both are great schools.

Both great schools- i looked at both.
For location- Boston is a great city and BC is just minutes away from downtown. At fordham, i think a lot of people dont realize that they arent as close as they think to manhattan from rose hill. About 30 minute train ride and 40 minute drive using the Ram Van. Then again NYC wasn’t a big deal for me when visiting fordham because i live pretty close to it.
Although I think for your minor (theater) Fordham could be a better option but for all of your other interests I would go with BC.
Fordham was my top choice for a long time but when i went there the fall of my senior year nothing really clicked. Good luck with your decision!
