Boston College?!

What are my chances at Boston College?

Stats:
Public school in NJ, sends several kids each year to Ivies.
GPA unweighted: 4.0
ACTs: 27 (plan to study and retake it senior year)
SAT II's: going to take two in June (bio and history)
Rank: kind of low due to moving soph year and going to a cut-throat school, top 18%
Rigorous course load, will have completed 6 AP classes by end of senior year.
Activities:
1. Yearbook editor
2. NHS
3. Interact club
4. Hospital volunteer
5. I work part-time during the summer
6. I take summer classes at a community college.

others: catholic, first generation college, female, moved from FL during my soph year.

If you retake that ACT, and get it above 30 then I think you are set! Being catholic helps however.

yeah get that ACT to a 31 or so and you’ll be good to go!

Get the test scores up and chances are decent. ECs are nothing special, though. Everyone at higher-end schools does NHS, Hospital, Yearbook. Try to find something that will really give you an edge. Is there anything that you do which is really unique? The best thing to get you into BC will be anything that will make the Admissions Reps say “WOW, we could really benefit from having someone like that here!”.

“Everyone at higher-end schools does NHS, Hospital, Yearbook”

I really don’t see everyone doing yearbook. That takes an incredible amount of commitment, hard work, and talent. Especially if you’re an editor. A lot people just can’t handle that kind of pressure.

Everyone was an exaggeration but I can guarantee you that a HUGE amount of applicants were yearbook editors. It does demonstrate leadership, but they receive PLENTY of apps from students who were "Yearbook Editor"s. It will help, but it really isn’t anything special. And I would disagree that Yearbook Editor is really a very challenging job. It requires very little actual talent thanks to all of the resources we have at our disposal for grammar and spell checking. For instance, yearbook is done as a course at my school; it really is nothing special.
