Anyone else not able to access the portal. My son and I both tried and nothing.

Yup. We have one at NU and that is an arm and a leg.

For those waitlisted, was everyone specifically put on the short waitlist or are there actually two waitlists? And if there are, is there any significant difference between the two?

Donā€™t know what my kidā€™s says. Curious about this, too.

Does it make sense for my Daughter to follow up on the initial decision? BU-Kilachand was number 1 on her list. Personal discussion? Letter? Grandpa is an Alum.

She toured 12 months ago but Iā€™m not sure that it was official (virtual or the like).

Waitlisted from CA.
Chemistry
UW 3.9x/W 4.47
SAT Optional
18 IBs, and 10 honors
Good essays
Great ECs (Senior Pres, Model UN, 4 years V. Basketball and Softball, Major fundraising work)

Acceptances: Northeastern, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, USC, Fordham, Loyola Chicago
Waiting on: Emory, UC Berkeley
Waitlists: BU, Cal Poly

BU definitely weights ED heavily and also need aware. Kidā€™s friend who was deferred from ED (much lower info across the board, nice kid) got into general studies and not her major.
I think since BU need aware helped them, too since their cost is higher than ours. :frowning:

Sending a LOCI may help but Kilachand from the waitlist wonā€™t happen.

Wow! My D23 got in!! So did not expect this! University scholarship of $63k yearly. College of Visual Arts. We are astounded. Never been to Boston but my cousins both went to Harvard. This was her final school and what a finish. Now itā€™s a big decision for her as we loved Umass Amherst. This is a whole different realm. Going to visit for sure :tada:

Should I stay or should I go?

Yeah, crazy, seems to me with Common App, since more kids apply to +1 or +20 more schools because its so easy to do soā€¦ that by default the acceptance rates go down for everyone. I wonder if there are actually more kiddos applying, or just covering a wider range.

Visited PSU Schreyer todayā€¦ andā€¦ not sure if kiddo will decide to go there, but if he does, it is almost certain he will exit with a BME degree, a 3.9+ GPA, lotā€™s of ECs, and likely a decent MCAT score to apply and get into Med School in 4 years. Nobody knows for sureā€¦ but this being our first rodeo, I think, it seems to me if the kid is motivated, they will succeed.

Next up GT visit!

wow. thatā€™s nuts. especially since she never visited. congrats

I had the ā€œshort, unrankedā€ waitlist

did the NFC calculator indicate you would get $$? Iā€™ve seen this response on several college threads so Iā€™m curious if thereā€™s a NFC bait-n-switch?

Me too, does that mean anything?

18 IBs? How i that possible? In an IB program you take 6 IB courses in 6 area of study. I can see adding one more as an elective, but 18? Are you referring to trimesters?

BU does offer a (very limited) number of merit awards. It is possible someone knew it was a reach financially but wanted to give it a shot, in case they got one of the merit awards.

D accepted in the College of Communication, BS in Film and Television. We are from Boston area.

  • Not sure about the GPA, probably 3.8, Test Optional
  • IB diploma, bilingual, projection: 6s in all the subjects, perhaps one or 2 7s?
  • EC: film programs during summer since after 9th grade, film clubā€™s president, theater company for 4 years, theater elective in French for 3 years, won playwrites festival 3 years on a row, chest club
  • Varsity soccer, basketball, and volleyball for 2 years (but small private school so not the kind of varsity with tryouts we find in public schools). Was a tap dancer until 9th grade.
  • strong LORs, good essays, toured the campus and met with the advisor that coincidentally was the person who was reviewing the applications coming from my Dā€™s High School. But D never communicated with her, except once and early in the process.
  • No legacy

Acceptances: Emerson, Ithaca, DePaul
Rjections: UCLA, USC, Chapman
Waiting to hear from: Concordia, Montreal

BU was not on Dā€™s top list; Chapman and Emerson were. So she wonā€™t attend. Also, she didnā€™t receive any scholarship and not sure if she will receive need based FA. She is probably going to Emerson, even if she will have to live off campus in order to afford it. IMO, D applied to too many reaches, and those last 2 weeks were hard with all the rejections (applied EA to Emerson, Ithaca, DePaul and Chapman, so received all her acceptances in December/January, except one defferal from Chapman). Frankly, even if she knew that BUā€™s decision wouldnā€™t impact her last decision, the news was a big relief and made her happy after all those NO.
