Boston University Presidential Scholarship - NOT AUTOMATIC

D was admitted to Boston University. She listed them as first choice college with NMSC by the March 1 deadline.

She received her financial aid offer, and WAS NOT awarded the Presidential Scholarship.
Spoke with multiple people at BU in financial aid and admissions.
They had an extremely high number of qualified applicants this year, and were not able to award merit scholarships to all National Merit Finalists.

Any one else out there with this result this year?

I am not NMF and still received that scholarship…

Congrats to you, ifoundalaska! BU is one of D’s top choices, but without the merit scholarship, is just not feasible.

This scholarship is clearly listed as competitive on BU’s website and also noted as such in the NMF Scholarship thread and externally posted list.

Thanks, BobWallace! Somehow we missed that info, and had it on our list as a “not guaranteed, but pretty likely.” Obviously, that wasn’t correct!

There may still be time to apply to some of the more generous NMF schools. Cannot hurt to ask.

Thanks, Torveaux. D did apply to a number of NMF schools from Bob Wallace’s wonderful compilation list, but BU was a top choice for her. She is blessed to have some great choices, and will end up somewhere great I’m sure!
