It’s totally unscientific poll time!

Don’t think that’s what they were looking for… I have similar stats (including many of those awards/nominations) and got waitlisted as well. Doubtful I would’ve qualified for FA.

My best friends child got in BU with much lower stats and no any awards. But my friend can afford full tuition.

I understand BU need money to run the business. Those AO’s salary also come from the tuition. So, I do understand. If I were AO, I probably would also choose students who can pay full tuition.

They’re also concerned about their yield and, therefore, less likely to accept someone they think will decline for a better offer.

that’s why demonstrated interest is so important

This is unfortunately more than simply a financial aid issue. My daughter (guaranteed transfer, not accepted for Fall) has stats very similar or higher to many accepted students and is full pay. There are so many variables. Not all of them fair. If the school is looking for 5 red pegs and 6 green cones and 8 purple circles and 30 qualified red pegs apply and 3 less qualified purples circles apply then guess who is getting in? The process has flaws and some students are getting looked over.

My child applied a major which not many universities have, but BU has a strong program for that particular major.

If it is yield protection issue, my best friend child who can pay full tuition also have many more choice than my child. All schools want to full pay students. Those kids applied more schools and got a lot more admission letters than mine. Those students can only go to one college and turn down many colleges accepted them. So, BU will still lose many of this type of students.

Acceptance rate this year: 18.3%

where do u see that

Is this for Fall 2021 or does this include CGS and Guaranteed Transfers?

Got an email today from BU Today about it. http://www.bu.edu/articles/2021/bu-class-of-2025-begins-to-take-shape/

The 18.3% acceptance rate is a preliminary rate. If BU ends up pulling students from the waitlist it will increase. It does not include CGS admissions nor the guaranteed transfer admissions.

In 2002 BU had an acceptance rate of 70%.

Here is an old article that shows the decline in acceptance rate.

That’s rapid. If I was Class of 2021 I probably would’ve gotten in. Crazy to think that it would’ve been a safety if I applied in my birth year.

The articles says BU accepted 53% of its incoming class through early decision. I’m not sure whether the 18% rate and the overall number of apps includes the ED applicants… Admissions statistics can be confusing!

The 18.3% includes ED. It is the overall acceptance rate (excluding CGS).

Not to digress, but since you’re on both threads, I’m curious to know - do BU and Northeastern applicants have similar stats and interests? I guess I’m asking if the 2 schools are kinda interchangeable. Or do they attract different types of students?

Ignore my question if it’s not allowed.
